That engine should not go over 7400 even with mods. If it is over reved too
much then you will probably have crank issues. You dont need rpm to creat power with that sled. That is why it is geared higher than the m8. It has the torque and horse power to build and maintain the high track speeds that the smaller sleds cant create due to lower gear ratios and lower horse power.

I know a guy that runs 8100 peak rpm for over 2000miles and never had a problem. the slp pipe set creates peak hp a little over 7600 rpm and recomend running 7800 so that if the rpm falls a little it falls right in the power. I like it to run around 7650 to 7700. slp peak torque is around 7400rpm But if you run lower rpm then they recomend you have to know how to set the fuel up because they set it up to run 7800 and if your under that your running to lean with there bd numbers. Mine with a y-pipe and can is running in the 7450(peaking over 7800 on the caption) range and would like it to be a little higher like 7550. these motors can handle 7800 no problem but if your stock you will loose power much over 7400.

How did he get around the rev limiter?

Yur rpms are right where they should be on a stock motor. yur in yur peek hp for a stock motor. if you spin the track faster you will just loose hp. try taking some wieght out of yur clutch if all you want is rpms. if you want power, try some mods:cool:

My 08 is stock and I just gained what I needed. 7300-7400 is not enough! Huge difference between 7400 and 7550 in the way these sleds pull. Call SLP and talk to Dustin about a set of MTX weights and a new primary spring. Don't be satisfied with your sled HOLDING anything under 7500.

On D&Ds web site a M1 with a stock pipe lost 5hpand 6lbsft of torque from a peak at 7300to 7500 so unless your running a pipe it may not be helping.

the sled is all stock, just got it this weekend, but just seems that the track speed is not there, all kinds of torque but really dissapointed with the throttle response, and the fact that the 2 m7s ran side by side up the steep hills

Our testing here on numerous M1000 sleds shows best peak HP with either a D&D, SPeedwerx or SLP, pipe, Y pipe, can and better intake, is 7650 when clutched well and balanced in the middle of good climbing and technical boondocking. This is with STOCK gearing.

That all sounds consistent with what I've heard/read. BUT, wouldn't lower gearing just help it reach & hold the 7650 RPM faster/easier? AND help keep the clutches cooler?
