leaking fuel cap

the fuel cap on my mountain cat is leaking through the vent, is there something I can do or is it time for a new one?

I bet its leaking through a crack on the filler neck. There is a tape you can get that will seal it up. The only real solution is change tank out. The gas tank 2 part putty will not work or hold up.

I really think it is leaking from the vent in the cap? but if I am wrong were does a guy look for a fix for this or a new tank?

I've had this happen on a few sleds... just get a new cap. My M leaks from the vent like mad... some of these days I'll get sick of wasting race gas when I roll my sled & get a new cap for it!

does it leak when you are running down the trail or only when you tip to one side?

It has never leaked before, but it was leaking when it was going down the road on the trailer. I had it FULL of fuel but as long as fuel was getting to the cap it would leak out of the vent in the cap. on a climb fuel would get to the cap and start coming of the cap and onto the tank cover. I would think if the neck of the tank was cracked the fuel would be coming under the tank cover? or am I missing something?

If its cracked filler neck you will see it with a flash light. If its coming out of the cap I would just replace it.
