Unloaded BEAR VALLEY SKI VILLAGE . Go any where heavy snow 6 plus feet base. New snow (foot plus) every day except the 15th. Rode thru Stanislaus over Ebbets to Toiyabe Natl Forest Dropped most every meadow. Deep deep untracked snow. Mosquito lakes and south were the best powder over the hood in meadows

Yeah Don, some guys I know hit Ebbetts from the East side on Sat. and said it was good. They said the Highland Lakes area was all tracked up. Lots of activity.

You come in from the Markleeville side. The issue is whether or not Cal-Trans closes the gate at the Monitor Pass junction(Hwy 89 & 4) or closes the gate at Wolf Creek(4-5 miles further up Hwy 4). If the gate is closed at Monitor and there is not enough snow coverage on the road, you're SOL. And the same thing can happen at Wolf Creek. Carbides and pavement ain't fun. As for places to stay, you could try Markleeville or Minden and Gardnerville(much greater selection). Carson Valley Inn is good.

Like Z said, the east side access is totally unpredictable. Best bet is to plan to stay in Bear Valley on the west side or somewhere around there. You can access it out of blue lakes but you need to know where you're going. Like really know where you're going.
