Wow you have Burandt #'s nice jobšŸ¦“šŸ˜¶
That's dry weight, and just guessing based on listed weights. The 800 started at 408 and I had a full slp pipe set that dropped 15lbs if I remember correctly. Didn't take much to get them sub-400. The 9r is stock other than a can

My 2023 9R 155, 2.75 with manual start and no oil and no gas was 429lbs. I weighed a 24ā€™ catalyst 600 154 3ā€, manual start, no oil or gas on the same scale, same day, it was 434lbs.
The 2.75 track is a POS, so a realistic comparison would be the 9R with a 3.25, which is 10lbs heavier than the 2.75ā€. I think the 858 catalyst will be the best backcountry non turbo sled even built. I may eat my words next season.

Per the snowest pod cast, the Catalyst 600 154, manual start is 32 lbs lighter then the comparable ascender 800. Wet with spare belt. They mentioned the overall 858 engine package (motor, intake, exhaust, ect) is 3 pounds lighter than the 600.

The less weight and more centralized package is going to be killer. Hoping to throw a leg over the 858 next Saturday.

It's weird that Cat is letting people place orders for their new sleds but still hasn't posted dry weights. That tells me that the must not be as light as they hoped.
and when was the last time dry weights were posted for any Cat?

I maintain that overall weight comparisons are generally BS.
What percentage of riders could accurately tell you if their sled was at 1/4 or 3/4 tank of fuel just by feel? And that's a 30-35 lb weight difference.
If the machines are within 40-50 lbs, it is all about design, set-up, riding style/ability, and snow conditions.

That said, I'd ride a new Catalyst if given the chance!

Snowest podcast just did a ā€œ2024 weightsā€ episode. THEY say itā€™s 4 lbs lighter than the 600 and the 600 is the lightest sled they weighed Sumter 513 lbs (itā€™s either that or the 858 is lol) so yeah donā€™t quote me but I was surprised AGAIN and of course Iā€™ll be wrong when they say ,ā€oh itā€™s actually 8k s heavier than the heaviest sled ever built.ā€ Lol

I just watched the snowest podcast. 9r 155x3.25 non estart with 7s was 520lbs rtr. 600 catalyst 154x3 non estart was 513lbs rtr. Said when they previously weighed an ascender alpha 154 it was 545lbs so thatā€™s a 32lb savings. Not to shabby. Doo free ride turbo 146 was the heaviest in the low 560ā€™s if I remember correctly.

I have been trying to find the weight of my 17 Mtn Cat 162. I would guess my Catalyst 154 3ā€ is 50lbs or more lighter than it is.
Feels like more than that riding itšŸ˜³

You have to remember the Polaris holds more gas and oil. Also the the 7s is 3# heavier than the std gauge, 7s has a small battery to power up it up.

How much gas and oil did the ascender hold vs catalyst? Cat did a great job with the new chassis, but I hate when the manufacturers put a smaller tank on and want to talk wet weights. At this rate we will be riding sleds with 5 gallon tanks!!

The catalyst feels very very light moving in the garage and while riding. If the 858 is slightly less weight and a lower motor mount itā€™s going to be insane. Iā€™m hoping the after market companies can make a good pipe kit for the 858 and be similar to the current 800ā€™s weight loss and power gain of 15-18lbs 10hp.

Arctic cat is doing demos. West Yellowstone and island park are the mountain rides coming up. Next week in eagle River, Wisconsin.
Today was ERX race track in elk River, mn. Just north of the twin cities. We ran the sleds from 8-5 all day. Did 500 laps, and not too tired, actually. Great handling and bottom end torque on the new 858. Nice and crisp throttle, no lag, bogs, etc. They got this engine nailed down. šŸ˜€

I think people make way too big of a deal out of weight.

A few pounds one way or the other isn't going to be noticable. And in most cases, 20 pounds one way or the other isn't going to be noticable unless the weight is up high.

Test ride one. If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't buy it. Pretty easy solution to the problem.

The aluminum boards are supposed to be 4 pounds lighter. You will want them. The plastic ones are garbage. Slick, buildup snow and break.

The plastic boards are not even offered on the build site. Aluminum boards are the standard and the hardcore core tube boards are the option for the 4 pound weight saving. Looks like the plastic boards were a failed experiment this time at least. I bet they replace them on all the 2024 catalyst

Interesting, never noticed that before (didn't read the fine print), I do wish that they had better pics of the standard aluminum boards though.
