While you do not specify what type of riding you intend to do; for your age and criteria I would look for IQR's on Craigslist, typically you can snag a low milage, year or two old sled in your $ range. These sleds are near bullet proof even when abused. A good platform to learn about clutching, gearing and other common sled mods if you decide to work on the sled yourself. Anyway that is my two cents. Most other sleds newer than 2012 will be priced higher than your limit, regardless of brand.

Depending on the riding you do, 7500 is probably a little low for anything newer than 2010-11. You might be able to find a high mileage 2012 or possibly a 13 for that price, but then you have to factor in a possible engine overhaul if you go with an 800. For a first sled, I would recommend an 08-10 Dragon (preferably a 700 if you can find one). They still can get you anywhere you want to go on the mountain, but are a lot more affordable to enter the sport with.

10-11 m8 if you ride mts. not in your years but will fit your budget and the motor will not go boom after 2000 miles. a few 40.00 upgrades and no 4000.00 LR or fix it kit needed, vented oil caps, turned up oil pumps, tunnel braces, new bumpers, new injectors, btw the dragon 08 to 12 motor are the same...:amen::closed_2:

What about 2014 indy 550s? Are they good?

They're all good and they all suck. Depends on what you want them to do.

To get the help you're asking for you need to tell us where you live or actually, where you'll be riding, and what type of riding you'll be doing. Also, how tall and heavy are you? Are you fairly strong? Can you do 4-5 pull ups? Aggressive riding takes technique mostly but being reasonably strong helps most guys develop that technique faster.

Your profile says you are 16. So you're a sophomore. If your family doesn't ride and you don't have your own truck then most likely ride from home which is fine. Get a $1,500 ditch banger and save your money. If you buy a mountain sled under these conditions to look cool you won't be happy. They're not geared for flat-out speed, they suck in the bumps, and they don't corner very well at higher speeds. Your friends on 92 Indys and 97 Summit Xs will smoke you on the trail and you'll just get frustrated or worse, you'll wreck really, really badly and get seriously hurt.

Now if you do live out west, at 16, how are you going to get to the hills? Is your mom, who doesn't want you to have a sled in the first place, going to drive you and wait in the parking lot for 5 hours? My guess is, doubtful.

Be realistic and get a sled that will give you the most, best riding for where you'll likely ride.

2012 RMK Pro 600 should come in for that kind of money. Great reliable sled that you can use in lots of different conditions.
