Across the west, avalanche danger is increasing from considerable to high. New snow along with weak layers in the snow are creating the potential for large avalanches. The last two weeks have been extremely deadly for snowmobilers throughout the west.

Please make sure you check your local avalanche report before heading out and exercise caution in your terrain choices as you move through the backcountry. The best way to survive an avalanche is to avoid getting caught in the first place.

There were two substantial slides on Lionhead on Saturday, one was sled triggered and the other was a sled driving on top of the mountain going west toward the horn, the vibration of the sled simply driving across the trail near the cornice triggered a tremendous slide in a very popular bowl.
