RkTek 858, who still have them?

Just curious, who still have a 858 kit? What version of the kit? How is it running? Any issues or failures?

Im a previous 858 owner, and want to know some experiences before I share mine.

Thanks.

I got one, installed 2014 on 2013 Holdover, has a few hundred miles on it. No problems, ride 7K-10K on strait av gas 14-1 head.

I have one with 1200miles touchy to tune but pulls hard. It is for sale only because I ordered a new Axys.

I run one on a 15 pro with 14:1 head above 6,000 ft. Runs awesome off trail but had some deto issues on trail. I corrected that problem with a gallon or two of av/race gas as I'm sure I wasn't getting the true 91 octane at the pump. Once you get the clutching dialed the sled pulls like a freight train.

Had both Rev 1 and later updated to rev2.

Rev 2ran strong when it did, lost the PTO piston at 20miles, looked like oil starvation, piston stuck to cylinder on intake side. Similar scuffing on mag side piston.

I know a few more engines with the rev 2 that has failed around here too.

Running LR now

Thanks for the inputs.

Had the rev2 kit in mine, worked fine about 3-400miles, startes to lose rpms, and decided to check the pistons while i changed reeds to V-Force. Saw scratches through the intake and pulle the cylinders. Both pistons had crack, scufs, and signs of pistons rock. Cylinder needed a hooning but were good.

Contacted Kelsey who told me he was testing out new pistons in the 858 kit, Wiseco brand, told me I could get the new ones if I wouldnt talk about it, until he could anounce it himself. Very happy with that, recived them after about 2weeks.

Mounted it again, all specs in check. Same thing again after riding about 200miles, lost rpms, pulled the cylinders, same scuffing on the pistons and signs of piston rocking. This time the cylinder also had big cracks in it. Contacted Kelsey again, no responce this time, havent heard from him again.

Pictures will be uploaded.

No Beuno!!! The wisco piston doesn't have a lot of wash, was it getting hot? How did the plugs look?

Plugs looked dark and good, and a/f numbers were low.

My theory is that the balance of the piston is screwed up when they shim the cylinder up, without using longer rods. The pistons gets top heavy, and starts wobling back and and forth, causing the cracks.

I guess they have realised that now, since atleast our national dealer stoped selling that kit here, and released a new kit again, without the cylinder shim like the v1 kits.

Isnt that how all the fix kits out there are?

RKT's poo 800 drop in kit doesn't shim the cylinders. FWIW. Kinda ironic with the current post, isn't it. Sunvang, thanks for sharing the pics and story.

Are you shore it was not detonation , do you use a timing key with his kit , does his kit with different piston and cylinder shim change the port timing? your piston looks alot like this one
