Making the switch from the M-series

I just made the switch. I just bought a new to me 2012 Pro RMK with 350 miles on it. Super stoked to get on and ride.
Of course I’d like to get the most performance out of it stock and hopefully longevity. I’m hoping some of you Polaris guys can help me out. So what are some things to look for or things I need to do to increase reliability? I know to turn the oiler up but what is wrong with the oil reservoir cap? Thanks for the help guys I’m 6’ 4” about 220 lbs. and like to boondock and play in the trees but not to extreme. I’m no pro. :face-icon-small-hap

Put a stronger back bumper on, run 10-60 weights above 8,000 ft. Make sure and run your scratchers on the trail, likes to run a fever if you don't

I would ride it and see where the RPM is at before worrying about clutching. If you're in the neighborhood just let it be.

Use the scratchers on trail...don't heat it up. Splash of oil in the fuel. With 350 miles I would just get out on it and see what's what before monkey'ing with much.

Set the bar riser roughly in line with steering post. Get a baseline on your suspension setup. Set the RTS for your weight as per the manual. Set the FTS with ~3/4" of threads showing....more if it doesn't feel "tippy" enough, or less if it feels too "tippy." Ski shocks somewhere in medium to soft range and see how you like it.

I agree... get out and ride it for a bit before making a bunch of changes. I ride the same sled and love it. For sure turn the oiler up and run a little in your gas. IMO run mineral oil in both the oil tank and the gas. Grease the rear skid and adjust the track to spec. There was a link recently on here for the service manual. If you can't find it shoot me a PM and I'll send it to you. Down the road or at least at the end of the season I would IMO change out the pistons. There are many good options out there. I personally went with the RK tek Drop in kit. Really wakes the sled up and should be more reliable. Worked for me anyway. Good luck with the sled!

Take ur oil cap in ur hand and hold it perfectly level breather hole facing straight up. Now put ur mouth on it and blow some air through. While continuing to blow ( head NOT in gutter here) slowly tilt the cap sideways. Mine blocks up with only about 10 degrees of tilt. Considering that the cap is mounted on the oil tank at a slight angle, I think the cap vent is closed more often than not. Hence my $2.50 custom made and installed vent line.View attachment 227859

Thanks Newby for that link. I checked the weights and they are 10-60. Didn't get the owners manual but the suspension seems soft to me. I hope to ride her this weekend.
The service manual would be awesome.

Adjust and ride. Just expect to feel naked 'til you get used to the lack of bulk lol.

I went from the PC to Pro. Going from M to Pro is like using a knife to butter your toast instead of a spoon.

I've had several M's but the latest was a 2010 M8. Changed because 3 dealers here dropped cat and now the closest dealer is 50 mins. away. I really like the pro chassis just concerned about reliability. It is time to jump and see for myself.

Suspension seems soft riding it? Or because the rear has a little sag just sitting there?

If the 2nd don't worry about it....it's made to have some sag and that setup helps it "plane." Imo most people set there rear suspension simply to eliminate sag, and that means nothing.

After riding this sled in deep powder all I can say is wow. I should of switched sooner. I only have 2 issues thus far. The hand warmers didn't get very warm and I couldn't feel the thumb warmer. Also being 6'4" I felt I needed a bar riser.
Any thoughts?

Search "corking handwarmers", should fix them up.

I don't know if my comparison is really terribly applicable since my M was turbo'd .... but, with that said .... I'm not doing anything on the Pro I wasn't doing on my M (turbo stuff aside), but I'm a WHOLE lot less tired doing it on the Pro and the Pro is generally a whole lot smoother and nicer doing it.

that's what happened to me. all my cat dealers were closed by cat:face-icon-small-fro. switchedto Polaris and have been happy with my pros

I came off an 2011 M8; the Pro flats out gets up on the snow and floats a lot better. My cat had a constant trenching feeling. As for reliability; seems like less issues with the pro motor, especially the newer it is. And you hear more about the bad than the good.

I put on some hand guards and can feel the hand warmers on low, where before I could not. There has also been some info. that it's possible the hand warmer plug (directly behind the switch) sometimes comes out.

I'm 6'3 and put on a 2" riser, perfect fit.

I feel the exact same thing. Although the power of the cat is fun and you can feel a big difference. I found myself not missing it as the Pro floats so much better. I also felt more in control I think cause I didn't have to motor through the snow so fast. (not being afraid of trenching out)
