Pics of the yammapoo!!

Hey guys, I didn't wanna post up much on this build (hoping for more of a suprise) but everything is going so well and fitting as planned I thought I would share. The build started about a month ago when I was working on my Apex motor and decided to set it in a spare tweaked chassis that I had laying around to find it fit amazingly well. As I looked everything over the only hinderence was the steering and figured I can work around that. I snagged up a full Apex motor for what I thought was a fair deal (Thanks Wes) and decided to get the ball rolling. Down to bare bones went the 163 chassis and and things were happening. First was to mount the Yammi chain case. I wanted to retain a good layback on the engine, use yammi belts and leave myself room to go over the chain case with a header as a last resort. As the yammi chain case is slightly shorter than the poo I decided to drop the jack shaft .25" into the tunnle to keep use of the stock driver lower holes. I welded the left side jack shaft hole up and then i cut out the tunnle and new bearing hole. I made dished piece of aluminum that was welded in for the shaft channel as well as the solid bearing holder on the left. With that looking good and out of the way next were motor mounts. I didnt want to skimp here nor over do it but would rather be safe than sorry. As you can see by the pics the are beefy as are the rears. The integrity of the rest the chassis is in ? but do have some minor bracing planned to help it out. After hrs of time figuring out exact engine placement the mounts were welded in.
As of now the motor and chain case are in place. I am taking the shafts to Fargo to get cut to length and resplined. In the mean time I will be workin on a turbo manifold layout and steering. A side mount will be the easiest as I have BD one but fabbing up a tank and doing the mid mount may be the way to fly. The steering will go over the motor and drop in like a IQR.

Sled will be set up with Timber Sled front and rear, stick with 162-163" track and a 2871r on the turbo setup. The motor is in the air as the one I bought is being rebuilt with carillos and JE's and my original motor is head shimmed with cam mod and low miles. Was planning putting the built motor in the apex but if enough BS flys it may need to go in the POO.

I hope you guys enjoy my build and will be posting with progress. ANY compliments are appreciated! Haters, I'll see you on the hill!

now i know why you asked about the roll of the motor! looks nice, should have nice center of gravity, and plenty of room to make it all work, i have seen the gutted IQ chassis and knew they would fit a rx1/apex motor in em perfect, glad to see somebody workin on it! keep us updated on the build.

Cool.

I have seen a few 4 strokes out of the chassis in projects but cant ever get anyone to tell me what the engine block weighs.

When we did the gixxer into the zx chassis back in '02 or so the block was 91lb if i remember correctly.

a 01-06 gsxr 1000 motor complete and ready to run is just under 150lbs.
I don't know what a apex or nytro motor weighs.

I shipped my rx1 block complete with starter, WP, oil pan to valve cover and it was 140lbs, apex is probably a few pounds lighters with the different crankshaft and more magnesium.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was told the setup weighs 134lbs. I will weigh it before it gets locked in :) Gaining some weight in the motor area don't bother me as I will shed elsewhere. Reliabilty and potential power over the D8 are hopefully a gain as rideablity (not that the Apex is bad) or should I say style over the Apex.;) Gonna be hitting this build hard to get it on the snow asap. :D

Are you going to be adding some forced induction.
notice the 2871 garret comment, its gonna be under some pressure, im really wondering what the setup will look like when all is said and done, I know my buddy has a 900 rmk that he was thinkin about 4stroke turbo swapping... getting more ideas for me to!

That looks good. The motor was made to drop in:) any ideas on the exhaust? where exactally is it gonna come out?
