Was just wondering if anyone wanted to help me install a my new torque arm, oiler cable, and or new suspension(rear skid and front shock i would also like to remove swaybar). 05 900 rmk
I'm not totally worthless with at wrench i have replaced almost everything on my car but i'm not that farmiliar with sleds. I have your basic mechanics tools but nothing that is sled specific. I would be willing to trailer the beast to your garage if that helps. I really just want to learn and i don't know anyone with any experience. A list the tools i will need to do the things listed would be great.
I will provide beer and food.

Thanks

Oh i live in the glendale/cherry creek area near shotgun's.

Yes, it is literally two blocks away from my garage. might be willing to throw down some cash for services rendered.

Check with Mule. He has one of those things and is getting pretty good at working on it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:p

Seriously though, check with him. He is a great guy and a good friend.

It'd be a little bit of a drive but I'd be willing to give you a hand. I'm up in Milliken and I'm only available on weekends cause I travel during the week for my job. Also the more notice you can give me before your ready to work on it the better.

But you're welcome to come on up and put it in the garage and we can hammer that stuff out pretty quickly.

Thanks for the responses. Parts are still in transit but you will def be hearing from me.

Thanks

Oh yeah, I forgot about XC. He has worked on some guys 900 too.:beer;:beer;

Another good guy

Depends on what you need done, but yeah... I don't have a lot of the "special tools", although I can usually make do with what I do have.

Oiler cable isn't bad, definately go with FatBoyzFrenchy cable. Much improved over the stock setup. Sway bar comes out pretty easy too, pull the bolts holding it to the bulkhead, pull the plastic retainers out of the A-arms, then just muscle it out. I got mine out without cutting it; not easy but it can be done.

I'd also recommend getting rid of the front radiator. Timbersled makes a good (cheap) kit for that.

I'm just figuring it out as i go . Does anyone know were i can get drivers pressed? What exactly do i need to take out to have them pressed on? A step by step on how to do this. I have a new skid to put on and would like to do the track at the same time. Does anyone know if i can run a 2.5 lug on the 900? What if i run some drop brackets? Thanks a million.

I did a set of drivers on my old sled. Did it in my press..........not really a big deal. Took a little time.

I took very close measuments to the center of each driver to the ends of the shaft to within a 1/32"-1/64", Made the same measurements center to center and made sure the new ones ended the same. Dont measure from the hubs as they can change, the centerline of the driver is best.

I can tell you from my expirence, make sure you line them up first before pressing them on. often the mold they use is directional and if you flip one of the drivers it will be a little off (Timing) which is probably not enough to casue serious problems but its bothersome. They have marks that have to lined up.

Make sure you debur the shaft so it does not broach the driver cutting out plastic. This can lead to a crappy fit.

If you end up in a jam let me know.

happy wrenching

I've got a press if you come up we can do that too. You basicly need to do what Rprecision said, but step by step would be

Remove skid, remove exhaust to get to the chaincase, remove gears and chain, remove spedometer drive housing (now a sensor housing) then pull the drive shaft out and move your track out of the way. press off old drivers, install new, then replace everything you took off to get it out.

Are you putting on Extro's (actually a combo driver like avids)? If so you will need to remove the chaincase in order to re-install the shaft when you put it back in, as well as trim your rails and add an anti-stab kit. Make sure the pitch matches the new track and that the new track has all open windows.

The 2.5 track will fit but is tight. your stock track if I remember right should be a 2.125 or 2.4.

What track are you considering?

Well i boutht a holz hill climb skid with holz rials so i'm pretty sure i can run a 153 on it. I might go cheap and buy an A-20 but i have been strongly been considering the PC. I really don't do to much trail riding. I pretty much always ride in vail cause our garage is in Frisco and i don't have that much confidence for our four place. You really don't have to do that much trial riding if you know you way around up there. So maybe i could get away with the A-20. It's so cheap that if i hate it i could hopefully find a good priced pc. I would even consider the polais IV 151 with 2.4 if i could find one. No luck so far. Tracks USA has a special on camo extreme 153 for $399 so that is also an option. I'm aware of what clips are but do you want to buy a track that is fully clipped of every other? What is the significance of the amount of clips?
What are the track recommendations for CO snow?

So i sound like the drivers won't be a problem if you have a press (which drivers would be best? easiest?). It is pretty awesome that you are willing to help me out. Much appreciation. I got some pretty sweet stuff coming for this thing. Got a great deal with my skid/front evo's combo. and found out from poking around that i already had the torgue arm and push arm. So that saves some time. Since we already have to take the skid off to put on the new one i can do track at same time. Also i'm going to be changing the gearing but it sounds like you have to yank that stuff out anyway to do the drivers. Then just a helix. Some spindles too everything else i can figure out on my own. It all really works out.

Thanks

I rode with a 05 900 RMK 161? this past december. The guy seemed to have a hard time keeping the front end out of the snow. It seemed to work pretty well in stock form! Acording to him, the first owner had put two cranks and a set of pistons in it the first season. He had a few of each himself..............

Not to turn you away, I would strongly suggest spending some time in the Polaris section. Theres alot of folks modding the hell out of those sleds, for good reason they tend to need it ! Look to Mountian Horse and Indy Dan. Theres alot of well versed folks around here on the those sleds.

From my own mistakes, I wouldent go throwing alot of money at anything untill you know what you have !

Good luck

Of the tracks you mentioned I would go with the challanger Extreme first, PC second, and A20 last. and to tell the truth I would go with a polaris series 5.1 before the PC in that lineup. That being said I'm actually seriously considering a Challanger Extreme for my sled.

Do you know what sled that skid came out of? (actual track length?)

As far as driver's go I would go with Avid's combo driver, I've had great luck with mine so far and couldn't be happier. With any extrovert style driver you must (IMHO) use an anti stab kit. Some peeps have been able to pull it off without, but That is one condition in my help, I won't let you do something that will cause you more problems than good and in the case of extro's I won't do it in my garage if you don't do an anti-stab kit.

As for all the work you have planned it's a good time to do it all at once since most of the stuff you need to remove to do the track alone is the stuff you want to make adjustments or changes to.

Should be able to do it all in one day easily.

Fitler,

I live in Parker (Main and Jordan) and have a spot in my garage if you wanna do some wrenching over at my place. I have my 727 ripped to pieces right now in there anyway doing some routine maintenance so let me know if you wanna work on yours at the same time too. I enjoy drinking some beer, cranking the radio up, and working on my sleds...it is actually quite relaxing and I find it quite the escape from my daily CPA activities:)

I agree with what you saying. In Theory but i have just never been able to live my life that way. Sucks. I bought this particular sled because it was a great deal and it had alot of the mods i didn't want to have to buy. That and according to the vin if only has 250 miles on a new engine. Problem was the guy i bought if from got from his ex bro in law. Dude i bought if from knows nothing. So everything on it that i can't see is a mystery. But i'm in there learning step by step with it. Kind of excited about cause i want to learn for the future. Only four years in this sport and i can't get it off my mind. Super pumped to ride this thing after coming off my 01 mc8. Good times on that thing though. It was very low on power due to neglect and ignorance. Also with the 900 your getting a chassis that is not all that diff from what is out now. Just components and some weight.
So at this point i'm in it no matter what so do me a favor and wish me luck.
oh you already did.

Skid came of a Polaris IQ which is pretty nice. According to the guy i bought it from, Spank form bad ocar customs. It was a race skid built by holz I'm guessing hill climb. It's got the older holz components and rails. came with float rear kicker shock, modified fox pro coil with double clicker and fox podium front skid shock. Oh and he said there's some ti stuff also. He seemed pretty confident that i would be able to make a 153 work. Here's some pics.

As far as tracks go i would love to get the new polaris track but don't think i can run a 155. So i'm kind of limited to AC unless i can find a 151. 2.4. That doesn't seem to be to easy thought. A-20 is so cheap though. I can get a new one right now for near $100 plus ship. Is it really that bad? I'm sure it is anything that cheap must suck. Checked out the avid drivers. Look good to me.

Thanks

Thanks for the invite. I seem to have an oil leak if you want to help me with that. I believe it is coming from the chain case but i don't really know. Seems to be coming from underneath. I haven't even checked the plug though so i'm not really sure what were looking at. It didn't have a leak when i bought it though which is weird. Anyway thanks
