looking at a custum built artic cat need advice

looking for some advice, a friend of mine is looking to buy a 99 zrt with a triple , its got 1900kms on it and they want 2000 dollars, were they a good engine or not? it is a Suzuki engine, just want to know anyone opinions on them, thanks.

You didn't specify whether it was a ZRT800,900 or 1000 motor. I am assuming either an 800 or 1000 because there was no 900 in 1999. The 1999 1000 came with round slides and the 1999 ZRT800 came with flatslides. Neither didn't have the 3-d ignition with the TPS on it. As far as common issues for the triple motors themselves:

1. They are notorious for having leaking coolant pumps/impellers
Replace the water pump with a 2002 t-cat impeller. It is the only year they used a plastic one and they are much more durable
2. The oiling system on the late model triples has either 1 oil inlet or is run through the fuel pump. The best oiling system is the old style triple oiling system where there is a single oil inlet on each carb boot. Run good oil in them

Motor-wise, that is about it. The triple ZRT motors are pretty bullet proof as long as you don't jet them too lean or run them too hot.
