YZ250 vs YZ250X

I was going to post this in the superhero threads but thought better of that. Here are the specs on the YZ250X vs the YZ250.

X

Transmission
5-speed transmission
primary ratio 3.000 (63/21)
secondary ratio 3.571 (50/14)
1st gear 1.929 (27/14)
2nd gear 1.533 (23/15)
3rd gear 1.313 (21/16)
4th gear 1.050 (21/20)
5th gear 0.840 (21/25)

YZ

Transmission
5-speed transmission
primary ratio 3.000 (63/21)
secondary ratio 3.571 (50/14)
1st gear 1.929 (27/14)
2nd gear 1.533 (23/15)
3rd gear 1.278 (23/18)
4th gear 1.091 (24/22)
5th gear 0.952 (20/21)

Seems like there is only a 3% difference in the third gears with a better 5th. Detune on the motor must be the difference. Does the X have a real stator?

The X has no stator. Gearing is slightly different, cross country suspension, tuned for woods (pipe and ecu are different), 18" rear wheel, and a kick stand. I almost bought a 250X until I found out they didn't even come with a stator. Hence why I bought a 300 XCW. I love Yamaha bikes but they missed the mark for me.

I love my YZ250X on the dirt. It is smooth, light, and the suspension works right out of the box. I have no plans to turn it into a snow bike at this time. Yamaha definitely tamed the power a bit. I don't think it has less power, just that it doesn't hit quite like a YZ. Like I said, great for dirt but maybe not as good in the snow. I also had to gear it down significantly to make the gap between third and fourth more user-friendly. This was beneficial on tight trails in the mountains but would make first pretty useless on a snow bike. Keep in mind though, that I'm on mountain trails at 8000 feet.

I'm kind of thinking new summer ride as I'm getting sick of spreading my a$$ cheeks at the orange store and maybe setting up a second snow bike for other family members. We have a KTM 300 XC here we could also use but I'm thinking I want something lighter than my 520 for summer anyways so maybe I can double up usage and get rid of one or two bikes.

Nice. I don't I think it would be a bad snow bike. I just don't think it would be everything you would ever want in a snow bike, if you know what I mean.

Whoops, just reread my first post. I meant the gap between third and fourth not second and third.

It would be a backup for me in winter maybe single track it in the summer , I am going to keep whipping the CR500 as my snowbike.
