Yukon 5.3L, mileage and durability?

I'm looking at a 2000 Yukon, 5.3, 4wd, high miles (160k), but its a Grampa truck. Looks like new, no leaks, no dents, drives good, etc.
What kind of mileage can I expect, city/hwy, in the mountains, easy driving, no towing or Nascar impersonations?
Who's had good luck getting alot of miles out of these? Can I expect to be dropping a new engine and trans in it right away, or do they hold up for 200k + miles if maintained well?
Thanks for the help, and any other info to add would be good. Last GM gassers I've had were the mid 90's trucks. Never had a 5.3 or the new body style 1500.

I would think in a Yukon you could expect about 15-17 MPG. In my opinion it is a pretty good motor for a daily driver. Not something you would want to be pulling alot of wieght around in as it would constantly be shifting all over the place. 160K is alot of miles. As long as it has been maintained good it should be ok. I would be more worried about the transmission than the engine. If it is a good deal you will know it. Don't let other people tell you what to buy.

Take a K off the price for trasmission work and buy it.

Not gonna be using it for towing (much), have a Duramax for that.:D
Guy is asking $9kobo, but I wouldn't give him over $5k and that's only if it is pristine mech condition, service records, or new trans, etc.
15-17mpg eh? Man I'm still draggin down 18-19mpg in the DMax, but might be worth it with the gas prices.
Used prices are terrible on gassers, even worse now. Sold my 01 Ram ext cab, 4x4, gasser loaded 116k on the clock, immaculate, all service records, only went tot he shop once in 5yrs for a repair and it was minor. Still only got $7500 and this was 1-1/2 years ago.

15-17 is about right. I've got an 2001 Tahoe with the 5.3 and I get 14.38mpg in the city. The motor is good and strong, just keep an eye on the tranny and keep up on its service. Pretty good rigs and the motor is great.

had a 2000 1/2 ton that I put 190K on- had to put a new rear end in after a one wheel burnout; only going 10mph, but she shifted into O/D:D Mine was GREAT!! all it's problems were caused by SEVERE mis-use... I put a tranny in at 160K of HARD miles. Best mpg was 20.41, rarely below 16mpg. I got around 13 with a tandem axle Ryder trailer w/a Toyota on it. I wouldn't be afraid of one with 160k of "nice" miles!

I can't speak for the newer ones, but I had a '89 Chevy half-ton. I sold it with 225k on the clock, still didn't burn a quart in 2000 miles, never had the valve covers off, original tranny. I don't think I put more than a grand total into repairs in all the time I had the rig (not counting tires). And I used that rig hard, just ran Mobil 1. I'd hope the new ones do as well.

I had a 2000 Silverado 5.3L ... the motor was the only thing on that truck I never had a single iota of trouble with. 150,000 miles on it, never hiccupped once and ran as strong the day I sold it as the day I bought it.

The new GM small blocks are probably the best gas motors that have ever been made IMO, at least as far as durability, miledge, and power output they can't be beat .... but even with that great peak horsepower, they're not really what I'd call "tow motors" ...
