ypz clutch too narrow

Hi guys!

I'm currently working on a friend's 92 phazer 2. The sled is a mess (bought for 400$ in a market where it's tough to find an elan under 1000$) we bought a new drive belt but I can't use it cause the clutch is freaking too narrow. I installed 2 spacers on the secondary as shown in the service manual but that's not enough. I just checked the primary clutch diagram and I don't see a way to make the clutch wider. I'm used to Polaris clutches and i'm totally lost with this old junk!

91 had a YPZ clutch for sure, 92 may be a differant clutch and someone put a YPZ on it. At any rate, a YPZ clutch takes a pretty narrow belt. I used to use a Daco and I can't reamember the number. Lotta help huh?

You're maybe right for the clutch swap... my friend bought a 92 belt which is maybe wider then that of a 91. Is this clutch swap a direct bolt on? Cause the primary is so close to the engine that the previous owner (or the one before... or the other one before :face-icon-small-fro ) had to remove all the spacer between the jackshaft bearing and the secondary so now it's rubbing against the bearing holder  . Told you the sled is a mess!

You're right...

91 drive belt :
1 7/32" Width x 43 3/32" Outside Circumference

92 drive belt :
1 13/32" Width x 43" Outside Circumference

they definitely don't have the same clutch

They probably have messed with the secondary also 91 secondary has the hielix to the inside and the later secondary is more like the current I think. It was deffinately differant. Sounds like there is more going on than meets the eye.
