sled is an 09 m8sp.
picked up used in the off season.
installed slp pipe kit.
when i pulled the stock y pipe, was surprised by how much oil there was in there
( and i am talking black oil)
anyhow w/ the new pipe kit installed and a thin skim of high temp rtv on the donut, and good spring pressure. the sled at idle and while revving, is dripping and spaying oil back towards the motor from the donut. what gives?????
sicking oil pump????

any ideas are appreciated....mm

The 2009 sleds are notorious for having a sticking oil pump. Mine had a lot of oil on the motor when I bought it (used 400mi) and the plugs were covered in oil. When I was installing my SLP pipe kit I checked the oil pump and it was sticking 1/2 way open. I used some Seafoam Deep Creep lube (Awesome Stuff) and the after a couple treatments it works fine now. Others have been putting an extra wrap on the return spring to fix their sticking pump, but mine has been fine with just good lube.

deep creep

Where did you put the oil. Have it in my shop so could treat easily, give me some directions please, Don.

are you sure its not from someone just starting it and letting it warm up in the shop ,a lot of idling in the shop mine do that i just start them every month or so in the off season

Mine is doing the same last year it didn't leak at all but i had to get my y-pipe warrantied due to a pin hole leaking, anyway it doesn't fit as good now and is spraying oil out. I had to take a round file to the notch where the donut fits onto the y-pipe to get it to seal against the ring on the y-pipe and with the old one it wasn't a issue, I have a new donut i think i am going to give it a shot and install it today. Did you use a new donut? Also how was it stored at the end of last season i used fogging oil and i think a lot of what i have coming back is that, i think i am going to have to take it out for a good ride to burn everything out i think its just running back down the pipe and leaking at the connection with no where to go but out the seal. Making sure to leave the silicon sit for 24 hours is important and i am thinking that the donut will also expand a bit when it is heated up to full operating temps and may stop leaking then, i had problems with the stock one too and thats probably the same reason you had oil down there when you pulled the old pipe off, that being said the oil pumps do stick as well and the sled is rich from the factory but without a good run i believe its going to be hard to burn it out and stop the leak. JMT...

well my m7 and wife's m6 never did that.
one thing to consider is the sled has been laying on its side ( both )
for extended periods of time since i installed the pipe kit???
could it have extensive oil in the case and its running out the ports
when on its side????

Check for stuck/misadjusted pump and run it.....get it hot and recheck it, sometimes they get that way over the summer, especially if they get started a few times and never really warmed up.

Before panicing I would ride it, Like Brew said if it was started a few times over the summer and not warmed the oil gathers in the pipe because it doesn't get hot enough to burn off. As far as the donut leaking after installation, again ride it first, the heat and vibration will help to seat it, 95% of the time all it takes is a trip out on the snow. That's more fun than wrenching every time.

starting the sled and not bring the pipe up to temp to burn out the extra oil will cause this, heck every year the first ride mines spitting oil for the first couple of minutes. after a quick 5 minute ride should spit it all out and be good to go...

I actually fouled a plug on the first ride due to fogging oil. I thought I stuck a piston first ride out 3-4 years back. Come to find out it was just a fouled plug. I assume the first ride all the old fogging oil got worked out of the motor and it finally just puked it up. Ran like a frickin champ after that!

i had read up on the sticking oil pump before buying the sled.
once the sled showed up, i check to see if it was sticking ( it didn't appear to be)
so after reading your responses yesterday i took out the air box and intake boot, used brake cleaner to clean the exterior of the pump and linkage, then lubed the s#@! out of it, and going to run it this way and see how she does.
i just don't like having to worry about something not being right before riding starts, especially when i have the time to do something about it.

thanks for the input guys.....mm
