Hey guys,
Can any of you Yeti owners offer thoughts and experiences on the RRS / YSS third shock. I am a TS 120 with TSS owner and I am looking at buying a used 2017 Yeti 129 and converting over. It has the RRS Raptor third shock. My local dealer said he really didnt like them as they are to soft and to long......... And that the solid strut is better. Any insight would help.
I have some trouble wrapping my head around this as my TS TSS was a nice improvement.

use the new soft strut allows 3 inch movement at the tail.sucks up woops well,RRS not great.
 
This is a used 2017 kit and has the RRS shock not the 2018 soft strut. Could you elaborate on how the RRS is bad?
 
Dealer is spot on, so at least you've found a good dealer.


Yeti's are great kits, so if you wanna try the kit don't worry about the RSS.


Run it and lock out the RSS, or just go solid or soft strut when you put the kit on.


RSS is just too softly sprung. Only good on flat whooped out trails, i didn't even like it on up or downhill groomed trails. Just affects the front end too much.
 
If its undersprung then you should be able crank down the pre-load or run a higher rate spring.............? If its undervalved (ie, to bouncy) then a good suspension shop should be able to dial in the internal shim stack too...........? Has anybody tried this?
 
That strut was an afterthought Timbersled was pushing on having a Patent on the fixed strut , so Yeti needed a soft strut in order to sell units to the US.
I don't have a yeti , but most that do have gone to the new soft strut.
I don't even like the TSS for most of the same reasons--A well dampened system with 1/2 inch of movement is all we need. The only system that really worked as advertised was the Old Timbersled SX with the 3rd subframe mounted shock and Linkage(but was it ever Heavy). TSS or The yeti shock do a poor Job at trying to do the same.
 
Yea, From what I have been told, by yeti tuners that I trust, is that the RSS just isnt capable of dealing with the load. I never ran mine. I have soft strut on new kit and it is good. Never feel it move, but it does use its travel. Bike crosses rough fast sections better than any snowkit I have ever been on.
 
I have a Yeti with the RRS shock, like a previous post said it has a lock out lever so if your in conditions that you want a fixed strut just turn the lever and you have a fixed strut, I like having the soft suspension in some conditions. You can adjust preload on shock spring and a clicker on the remote reservoir to adjust how the shock responds, In my opinion you have the best of both with the RSS shock.

My experience was the RRS lockout was not a full lock out - it still moved but at a restricted rate.
 
Well, I bought the guys used kit and began the install last night. I think you're right about it not being a full lockout. I felt that i could get it to move "locked out", in the garage anyway. Most mountain bike shocks have blow off bypass that will activate if big hit occurs in the locked out position.
 
I actually really like the rrs. I’m 185lbs in gym clothes. Very plush and I find it helps it feel more like a dirt bike. Set it to firm in the pow and it doesn’t move much

That is exactly why.... The RSS is fantastic on that kit. I have 2. Runs like a dirtbike in the rough.
 
If you call Raptor , they can make valving changes and improvements based on rider weight, and riding style/demands.
 
First ride out n the RRS shock..........I blew it up. It puked red sweet smelling fork oil all over everything. Also running it nearly an inch shorter than recommended, under compression my muffler hits the carbon tunnel. I spoke with my Yeti dealer (Motion Sports in Coeur d' Anlene) before the first ride about doing a revalve since they are the RG3 suspension guys already. All that being said I did like how it rode too. Very dirt bike like. My friend even said it looked easy for me to pick up the front end.
