On February 3rd, Iran launched a “communications satellite” into orbit. At this very moment, North Korea is threatening to do the same. The ability to launch an alleged communications satellite belies a far more frightening truth. A rocket that can carry a satellite into orbit can also drop a nuclear warhead over any location on the planet in less than forty-five minutes.

Anyone know where I can buy lead sheilding at?

Seriously. I want to insulate my house with it.

I live so far out in the country, shielding wouldn't matter. A nuke anywhere near me would be a waste of a nuke. I'm not worried.

But you do though ....

Think about it:

One nuke, detonated in our atmosphere at

a) A point where the resulting EMP pulse would destroy most of our infrastructure, IE, over large cities

b) A point at which the prevailing winds carry radiation all over the continent

Both of which are very real and scary prospects of nuclear weapons. You don't actually have to be hit directly with a nuke for it to destroy the world you live in.

That's the scary part.

True, so true. I didn't really think of that.

And think of this... what would this country be like without power, for lets say a couple weeks. Total chaos. It's not out of the realm of possibilities, and without power you couldn't even buy anything at the food stores. First off, most of the people that work them are too stupid to figure it out with a pen and paper, and most of the goods just have UPCs on them anymore. With the way things are going in this country, we are going to become an easy target.

Devils advocate here.

Who are we as a nation to tell another nation they can't do what we already do?
That is, put up satilites?
Until such time as they prove their true intentions it is rather difficult for us to tell them what they can and can't do within their own country.

I totally disagree. I see our nation as (mostly) rational in terms of how we handle our nuclear arsenal. Granted we are the only ones to use it, we have refrained from it since. If a country like Iran, Syria, N. Korea, etc. had the ability to launch a nuke, they would do it and scream "Jihad, Jihad, death to the Martyrs!". I believe it is in the good of all the world and all man kind to keep countries that have dictatorship or any other irrational means of government from obtaining nukes. Keep in mind these people strap explosives to themselves and commit suicide because they are not afraid to die. Now what if they had nukes?

I'm sorry, but what does this have to do with our lord and savior's policy?

Iran has threatened Israel with totally wiping them off of the face of the earth. N Korea isn't exactly a fair player in the sandbox either.

Successful rocket launches for a communications Satellite? Yeah, I'm sure they haven't even thought about attaching warheads to them. Oh no, I forgot, they want to just develop nuclear energy.

Dogmeat - If you wrap your house in lead, you would have to put warning stickers on it to protect against lead poisoning for children under 12.

Irans president did not say iran would wipe israel off the map. This was a fabrication by your israeli run media.
obuttmas first selection to his cabinet was Rahm Emanual, a dual Israeli citizen. Your chief of staff is a citizen of another country. I would investigate the uss liberty for further understanding of your supposed ally israhell.

I agree we need to try to prevent Iran and others from obtaining the bomb but it's gonna happen.

You also have to remember most of the rest the world see's the USA as a bunch of religious wack jobs with nukes and a history of using them. That's how they look at us eventhough WE know we will never use them again.

so your kid has the lid to the cookie jar open and is looking inside it, do you wait until he has his grubby little hands on a cookie before you slap it?

So on that same note, you wouldn't have a problem with, say, the EU coming in and saying, "America, we think you are building more weapons so you can wage war on the EU, therefore we are going to force you to stop building all weapons", Or, "The United states is the only nation in the world to ever use a nuclear weapon, therefore you must immidietly shut down all nuclear power plants because we don't want you building any more nuclear bombs. THerefore we have decided you can't have nuclear power".

Do I think Iran is working on a nuclear weapon. Yes, you would have to be a moron to think otherwise.

However, I don't think it is our place to decide who can and can't have nuclear power. If Iran gives a nuke to terrorists or uses it on another nation, then we have the ability to deal with it.

But no, until they put their hand in the jar and come up with a cookie, it is all assumption.

minus that whole plume and fall out and prevailing winds that would carry fallout all over MN.

nope I tell her to grab me one and I'll get the milk:D

It is hard for us to tell other countries what they can do....that makes us a nanny state to ourselves and the world, and nobody likes that.

Well lets hope they dont drop a Nuke in Casper Wyo

They'd drop it somewhere in southern canada, the winds would carry it all the way down to the gulf .... they'd for sure set off a nuke over Denver.
