Yes another 2 stroke oil Question Cr500

So the guy that build my engine which is highly ported for 100 octane says he would recommended mixing a Maxima Caster type oil at 40 to 1 and mixing in 4oz of Xylene per gallon to keep it from separating..... He says this will make it much easier to start when cold... Thoughts? This is for my Cr500...

Maxima 927 is a great bean oil, honestly it offers great protection.. BUT where bean oils suffer is in the cold. The oil drops into the bottom of the fuel, and basically can't be atomized properly.

Is there any proof that Xylene, tolunene or any other additive is any good at making the 2 mix? I'd a jar and perform your own test in a freezer.

I highly doubt that's a good fix, but if it worked, then castor bean oil offers the best protection imaginable.

There are some other drawbacks to think about, if you run out of gas one day, and have to borrow someone elses gas, which will be either straight gas or some synthetic or blend. Will it mix with what's left in your bike? Not likely.

I run Maxima K2 in my 2-strokes. It's an ESTER based full synthetic that protects really well.. Mixes easily, doesn't seperate.. And doesn't leave much deposits. What else could you want?

I think running any good oil, and enough of it will protect well enough. I'd be more worried about running lean than what oil I'm running personally.

Generally speaking the hardest 2 strokes on oil are those which spin the fastest, thus give the least amount of time for the oil to coat all the surfaces. No matter how finely tuned a big bore you have, it'll never rev like a little scooter, chainsaw, or weedwhacker. It's all about contact time.

That's my 2cents

Good advice..... I think you are right on all accounts... For me it is one more thing to mix and adds to the pain in the arse part of it so I am going to going with a good Syn...

I ran Motul 800 all season and from day 1 on this bore. Just stripped it and it looks excellent. However im switching to Amsoil Dominator. Many great reports from the field and cheaper than Motul 800. Your in your own with the Xylene !

I think you are right..... I am a big Motul fan so I will stick with it.

I'm new to the 500 world but use Motul 800 on my 300 in the summer at 50-55:1 (KTM recommends 60:1). What ratio are you guys using on these big bores?

I find it hard to believe these bikes really need 32:1 like many preach...

Very subjective. Old school guys preach 32:1. New gen stuff seems to be in the 50/60:1. I know some guys on the single track circuit who swear by 32:1 on their KTMs. Better wear, better running motors. Of course they jet for it. More oil means less fuel, less oil more fuel. Different mixtures.

I ran 32:1 in my CR with Motul 800. I am switching intakes this year and will run Amsoil Dominator. Lots of good reports from other Hoons lol

I know for me and even on my 300 if I am going to have a lot of wide open stuff like the dunes I run 40 to one and 50 to1 on the trails... I was recommended to use 40 to 1 on mine of a very good oil.... I have metering rod carbs though so jetting is not as much of an issue...
