yamaha srx mountain modification ?'s

Hey,

Was just neeeding some info have a 98 srx mountain with 136 2" paddle track was thinking about updating to a 144 2" paddle. Would i need to change anything on my clutching or would that clutch be able to handle it>? Or is that 136 good enough for some mountain fun? What kid of prices am I looking at for this modification. Found a couple of sites so far going through here to buy parts. Any help or info would be great. Thanks....

As far as the tack upgrade goes?
how much do you weigh?
where do you ride mostly?
I would say that it would be a costly upgrade and you might be ok without it assuming your not a really big guy and your not riding in the super deep snow all the time.
I think you would definitely need some clutch work and if you feel like you have to do this upgrade it would probably be better/cheaper to get yourself into another sled and sell that one.

Ditch the 8DN-00 weights. A drop and roll make a difference like you wouldn't believe. If your changing track you might as well go as long as possible. Unless you do a majority of trail riding.

srx upgrade

I only weigh about 183 mostly ride the trails around Iowa, maybe 1 or 2 times out west but i like to go deep when i am out there off trails mostly then. And climb also

What kind of drop and rolled do i use for this sled if i get rid of those 8dn-00 weights?? I ve located some rail slides 144 from an 01 mm and 144 track would they work on the srx?

Why dont you look for a takeoff 153 from a Nytro, probably buy the track and driver's used for pretty cheep from any number of guy's on this site
They had a 41 in front end, if you pull the nut's from the heim joint's and screw the radius rod's all the way in you can get it to about 39 in or so
The stock ski's sucked, dont waste your money on pipes but a light can would not hurt
Oh and strengthen the steering column while you have a chance

Depending on altitude you will need 8DN-10 or 8DN-20. Like 0007 said look for a skid and track off a Nytro or Polaris, Ski-Doo etc. That pro-action is a pig, but rides great. A D&R is getting into some $$ as you will need to change the tunnel due to heat exchangers. Northernlites had a mod case that rolled the case slightly but IMHO not worth it. ditto on the rest 0007 said.

you would need the whole skid off a mtn. max and that would require a 141" track not a 144.

your best bet is either leave it a 136 for average trail riding and some light off trail. OR remove skid and replace with a mountain specific suspension. these function better in deep snow and have a much shallower attack angle which will decrease trenching in deep snow. going with the second option will be the best for boondocking and hillclimbing but will hinder your iowa trail riding and tight cornering.

What kind of sleds will work for this setup?? And what diff parts do I all need besides the diff track? Or could I just go with rail extensions to a 144 and changing my driver from a 9 to an 8 tooth and dropping the gearing?? Alot of ideas and I appreciate the info...

there are alot of different options when considering a skid replacement, it really comes down to the type of riding that you are wanting to do. some use a skid out of a summit, arctic cat, mtn max/mtn. viper, maybe a nytro as was stated in a previous post, there seem to be alot of folks removing there mtn rx1 skids with turbo installs so maybe you could find one used (they are a 151"), the worst option is to relocate your existing skid as this will diminish your ride quality and skid geometry.
As far as the parts you will need, for sure 8 tooth anti-ratchet drivers, gearing (prolly 21/22-40/41/42), chain depending on your gear choice, clutching (weights, springs, helix), track, skid, drop brackets, and tunnel extension.
all in all it would be a great upgrade if you ride deep snow (3+ feet)and you will not regret this conversion.
