Yamaha Phaser Good Starter Sled?

Im Looking to buy a Yamaha Phaser, would it be a good sled for someone who has never snowmobiled before. I live in Vernon BC and want to know if it has enough power to work in the mountians and deep powder, i plan on taking it to revelstoke a few times this winter also. My friends just bought a 98 700 srx and 01 800 summit would i be able to keep up?

If you don't weigh to much it will take you almost anywhere. My wife loves hers it turns like it is on rails! If you are going to ride seriously than you will end up wanting more power. If you get a phazer all you can do is turbo or supercharge it then you are looking at the same HP as a stock Nytro.. Just buy the nytro to start with.

My better halve rides a Phazer it does just fine, but 80 HP is 80 hp

If you are out riding with guys who have 140 you will not be happy.

It will do anything you can expect of it but will not keep up with a sled with almost double the power.

I put the Gen 2 simons on it and a 151 by 2.4 inch track makes it go like a little tractor it goes where ever she wants to go for sure.

I have a ball riding it and competing with a buddy of mine who will also borrow his girlfriends Phazer .

As soon as you throw more HP in the mix it just has a hard time keeping up.

But it is a fun and reliable sled for what it is.

Do not turbo or SC it, works great but that cost as much as going to a bigger sled and will not be as reliable.

A slightly moded RX1 or Vector may be the ticket if you want to keep up with them.

good luck

IMO - the phazer is a great sled to learn on. I started learning on a 95 polaris efi, but I had a friend that had a phazer and so I switched. I loved learning on the phazer. It's light and nimble and it will go almost anywhere that the SRX and 800 will go. You wil most likely have to follow in their tracks in some areas but yeah you should be able to go almost any where they go.

My daughter learned on a phazer too. She started out on one at 8 yrs old and moved up to an moded SRX 3 years ago and now we are looking at a Nytro for her to ride this year. She's now 15 and just rocks on my Nytro! So, yeah, I'm all for learning how to ride on a phazer. I think that they are a great reliable sled to learn on. If it's an older model phazer, I believe that they are lighter than the newer models that they came out with a couple fews year ago.

That's my .02c :)

My wife loved her phazer, she had a 00 mountain lite. Great sled for anyone to get comfortable riding, but as stated before 80 hp is 80hp. Depending on how you ride it may be short sometimes.
