Yamaha Boats-need feedback

i would pick a v-8 or 6. yamaha has 2 engines twice the chance at problems. might use more fuel and they really don't hold there value around here anyway. for the price you could a real nice i/o or ski boat.

I think they are pretty well built, but I've also heard that they really go through the fuel. Other pluses that I've heard: No outdrive, so shallow water is not as big a deal and they should be much lighter. If it handles like a pwc though, it could be a little unnerving at low speed manuvering.

Good things to think about Guys. Anyone else with real world experience with these watercraft? Pros and Cons? Thanks!

Friend "had" one. The quality is excellent, motors ran flawlessly, buttttt, was a substandard boat for what he needed. Buddy wanted to have a good wakeboard/slalom ski boat. The Yamaha jets just did not perform well in this situation. Can it pull a skier, yup. Does it pull like a Inboard ski boat "nope". The jet drives do not hold a straight line when you have an experienced slalom skier yanking on the rope. The jets also do not have a hole shot like an inboard either. It labored when pulling the skier up.

Fit and finish of the boat was incredible. Very retro for interior design. The boat performs well if you will be in shallow water, takes rough water very well, and overall a fun boat.

You need to make sure what you want out of a boat. If you want to ski/wakeboard, get a inboard comp boat. If you want to squirt around the lake, the yamaha would do well.

No outdrive, so shallow water is not as big a deal

Shallow water has trashed more jet pumps than anything.
You'd be surprised at the suction velocity these things have.

Fuel economy.....
When SeaDoo first put 2 - 110 hp engines in a boat, the rated WOT fuel consumption was 27 gph.
That was a decade ago & I'm sure todays jet boats are better, but there are
many reasons I would prefer propeller propulsion in a boat.

Griz... only experience i've had with these boats has been good. They are well finished and great cruising boats. Good for playing with the family and poking around the larger rivers and lakes of the PNW. The biggest backdraw to these is their fuel consumption. If your just looking for a good family boat for playing around on the tubes, ski's, wakeboard or what not I'd recommend looking at Bluewater, Tahoe, or Regal any of the three with the 4.3L V6. This motor is extremely friendly (easy to work on if you had too) and parts are relatively inexpensive. Also the 4.3 is good on fuel. Hope this helped. Personally I'm looking toward Alumaweld with a 4.3 Jet drive so the fam can play and I can still salmon fish :D:D

This would be used mostly as a cruiser and maybe to pull a tube on occasion. I would like to be able about to load up 8 people and still get across the lake at 45-50 MPH. Is this doable?

One of Yamaha's selling points is the fuel efficiency so I'm surprised to hear fuel mileage concern.
