y-pipe and can really require a fuel controller?

I have the speedwerx can and intake on my 08' m1000, I want to put a a y-pipe on but was told that I have to have a fuel controller box because it will run to lean. Is that true? What have you heard or done?

All depends on the elevation and weather you run 91 octane or higher. I have ridden with a couple of people that run a y-pipe without a fuel controller. It works just fine, but every sled is a little different. Keep an eye on your plugs and you should (IMO) be fine.

Burned my 07 M1000 down twice just trying to run a pressure regulator at 51psi. So IMO install guages first. Check your temps. Install mods and watch it.

My guess is you will need a box/controler.

i have an 09 1000 with a can and speedwerx y-pipe....i ride 7-11k.....any kind of a long climb will put mine over the top of reasonable egts without a fuel controller.....i use a bd and use +7 to +8 on the top end fuel, 7200 and above rpm.....over the top egt for me is about 1370 on a short pull and about 1325 on a long one (over one minute wide open)...my egt probe is located about 2" downstream of the pipe/y-pipe junction....without adding fuel, the egt goes quickly over 1400 and i'm already out of the throttle as it does so....this is supported by plug readings and piston wash.....soooo, i wouldn't run a y-pipe/can without fuel, although i know some do.....and some that wish they hadn't.......

I had to add up to 56psi to keep temps down at 5000ft, and it can change at diff alt and air temp.
