XRS 151 On-Trail Manners?!?!?

I am looking at buying a 2007 XRS 800 151 and will be using it mostly for boondocking and powerline off-trail use in Northen MN and UP of MI.........but how well does it do on the trails of North MN, WI, and MI. I will obviously re-clutch by minimally puttting in the BRP solid pin weights........but how well does it perform on trail.....cornering, stutter bumps, bigger bumps, etc....

We used to be wide-open trail riders but now the group I ride with over the last 3 years has went to almost all boondocking and off-trail....but when we do take the trails to get to these off-trail places we do like to ride hard and fast.

Thank you,

REV8MN

I just bought the same sled, for riding primarily in the UP. I live in northern WI and am really excited about giving the sled a try. I came off a crossfire 700 with a 144 and now all we do is tree ride and boondock. The XRS should do well on the trails as well, but with the 2" paddle, it's no trail sled. Put scratchers on and you should be able to ride it like you stole it! I am looking for a good clutching setup for low elevation as well. Maybe see you up there sometime!

track

I liked it...I had a 144x2.25 finger track...worked AWESOME on the trails, but trenched in the really deep stuff, but I think everything does to some extent. I am really going to miss that sled, but got the XRS mainly because all I do is offtrail and not having reverse was sucky. I know that sounds lame, but it was a big reason for me to even look at another sled. I will NEVER own another sled without reverse. It's a convenience that is really nice when you need it most. Where do you usually go riding in the UP?

I currently have a 07 Crossfire 800 with reverse...all stock with the 1.25x15x136 track.....If I do not get the XRS I may stretch my Crossfire to 144 and put on a 1.75x15x144 Camoplast Back Country Track. ......Just thought if the XRS could handle the trails to get to the off-trail adventures it would cost me less in the end verses converting the Crossfire.

I have ridden the backcountry track in a IQ 600 and that track is impressive. I would suspect that your crossfire will do better on the trails even with the backcountry, but the XRS would be alot better in the deep. Depends on what is more important to you. Heard good and bad things about the stock track on the XRS, but only time will tell. I will give it a good test as soon as the UP gets some snow. I would recommend the Ole's extension if you do stretch the cf. Fit and finish was perfect and they really were tough. Good luck.

I am from the duluth area and ride quite a bit around home. XRS seems to do just fine for me where ever I ride. I do just about everything you mentioned, form pounding ditches to powerlines to icefishing along with my anual trip to the Island Park. So far so good. My sled has a can and some clutch work from SHR. I run the stock track with scratchers, and still have the original slides on it with around 2000 miles. I absolutely love the sled.

have 07 144 800r. rides fine though the trails and off. 151 is alittle longer but still managable. they push in the corners alot, not the top speed you had, .....i know alot of people who ride 121 with 2 in lugs or better and love them...still great on the trail....notice little the lug with traction but everything is the same. and with the short track you can really dodge the trees....

i myself go up to the u.p. 4 times a year and out west 2 to 3 times so i have the 144. out west i need a longer track for climbs, but its still capable..

longer track you will still get stuck if you can ride good....takes some getting use to...

good luck chief
