XP: Where is all this oil coming from?

Hi all!
I was doing some cleaning/maintenance on my XP yesterday getting ready for our trip to Revy in a later this week, and I'm a little curious on a couple of things I found... The sled is new to me, has 400km on it, obviously has chewed at least one belt (judging by the remnants of debris in that area), had some wear on the belt/clutch guard due to its poor fit but the thing I am still scratching my head about is the oily film on pretty much everything under the hood, belt and clutches included; anyone else seen this? Is this "normal"? Can't be good for the already limited belt life on these things...:( There is also some obvious signs of heat affecting the clutch side plastic panel... (again, normal???) It will be getting a vent kit Monday!

The factory likes to spray the underhood with oil for corrosion. Great idea ay?
A good dealer needs to clean everything under the hood and clean the clutches before they deliver the sled. I'm sure that oil has made them alot of $$ in belt sales.

Some of it may have been anti corrosion oil, but a lot of it sure seems like injection oil... if the oil tank leaked I can't see it making its way to the other side of the engine. I know 2-strokes are messy but this is enuff to make me wanna get rid of it already!

Y pipe bolts backing out are the reason my REV engine compartment looks like a Dr. Dre concert lol. Double check yours too make sure they are atleast still in there.

Just a guess but the sled has more than likely been on it's side or even upside down more than once causing oil to come out of the tank. Some guys take such poor care of their stuff that even with 400 miles on it they look like they are 20 years old.

I had a leaky oil cap on mine and even after 1 day of riding with it like that i had injection oil everywhere!!! i would not be surprised one bit if you have the same kinda thing going on

Skidoo doesnt actually update anything... if they did, they wouldnt be having the same problems theyve been having the last few years. My oil cap leakd on my 05, fixed that with some sealant (tape).

Some guys dont have nice garages to pull their stuff in and power wash the oil and belt dust off after everytime they ride.. We try our best though, it would be nice to be able to get a skidoo that doesnt do all these things... But then again, its not a perfect world :)
