It is true, Ski Doo has issued a recall on all the 08 XP driveshafts.
They will be replaced by your Ski Doo dealer.

If you buy an 08 XP the only stuff you will get from BRP is the new driveshaft and hand warmers. You wont get anything else that comes on the 09's unless you buy it.
Yes all 08 summits must have the driveshaft replaced by BRP. Bulletin has been out for a couple weeks. I dont hink doo has sent out any shafts yet. Dealers who have leftover 08's are not allowed to sell them until the driveshaft is replaced.

The only update that BRP is paying for is the driveshaft and handwarmers. There are no other updates as of yet.

My replacement driveshaft is in, I have an appt. on Friday to have it replaced.:D

Well not quite

Handwarmers should already be changed on all units. Driveshaft replacement is already starting according to another thread on SW. They will change out the chain coverplate bolts at the same time. The 146 had a gear change that is warranty. If you don't already have a 377 belt then that is covered. If your oil res. is leaking around the cap that has been approved.

Rear skid sag is on you though and clutching has been a much debated issue. Don't even mess around with it just call DJ and get his clutching, it is always the best upgrade that you will ever do.

just at my Doo dealer in Calgary, told me that they will get shafts soon, but they are also waiting on a special tool that dealers will need to press the clutch back onto the new shafts. Also told me 08 will get the 09 2 stage helix and were told to put the engine slightly out of alignment at idle, so that under power the clutch will then be aligned . Asked him about people like me who machined the clutches to align them, said make sure we know that when it comes in so they won't change the engine alignment. Also told me my leaking oil tank will be replaced at the same time. But he said not to expect this to be done in October, maybe early November! Hope not , plan to be sledding in Revy by then!! But good news about the helix, so now the 08 & 09s will be pretty much the same!!

Does your dealer have a update notice on the helix? Dealer I talked with said that they are not doing any warranty/updates to the clutches. If you wanted it done you had to pay for the parts. Would be nice to see so that we could show or inform our dealers.

they paid for gear change ( upper ) if requested, added more pin weight & new 377 belt at no charge .

How did you pull that off? A free gear change? What's the secret code word? ;)

My dealer is doing: new belt, handgrips, driveshaft. No 'free' clutch work, period.

I got ski doo to pay for the welding of my drive shaft along with the gear change and the weight added and new belt and the handle bar warmers, all done last winter for freeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

You still need to get your drive shaft replaced.
I heard from my dealer that the heat from welding couls actually weaken it more.
That is why they did the full recall on drive shafts.

I have been wondering about clutching...
who is DJ and where do i find him?

Talked to local dealer today. new drive shaft, updated rollers for primary & flash for X package gauges is all that is warranted.

Who really knows if the new clutching is the answer or not  I will wait to see 09 Xp on the snow before I make my decision
