I have seen this posted many times on the Yamaha side but am wondering what the Doo riders think. I am riding a 02 viper piped 144 x 16 x 2
and looking to up-date thought I wanted a Nytro, being a Yamaha you know all the plus's 4-stroke, no inj. oil blah blah. BUT if I dont buy a Yamaha I think I would like a 146 or 154? Skidoo 800.
I ride in Iowa and the Snowies, @ 65% boondocking, 20% hills, and atmost 15% trails
Also I will be riding it for 4+ years so it has to be dependable?

I have both. Buy the Nytro!! I bought the Nytro as a backup sled; the XP is now the backup sled. You will not be disappointed. I loved my stock Nytro, just dropped it off today for a MCX turbo. Now I going to really love my Nytro!!

Unless your going to put a pile of money into the Nytro i.e. turbo, its pretty much worthless.

Ditto! A stock Nytro is less powerful than a stock XP. It is heavier and unless you are a very experienced tech you won't even be able to change the oil yourself. But if you drop 7 large into the nytro for boost then you will be happy.

Get the XP! just my 2 cents

I've spent alot of years with both Yammi and Doo. The 4stroke world is completely differant from the 2stroke world. decide if you really want to convert.

As for the XP vs Nytro stock for stock the XP wipes the earth with the Nytro. If you want reliable and dependable the Nytro (yammie) is the best in the buisness.

OT

I'm not going to get into the debate but the above comment on the oil change is just flat stupid. It's extremely easy to change the oil. If you can change the oil in your own truck(which maybe you can't) then you can change the oil in a Nytro. Takes all of 15 minutes.

If your going to post reasons to buy/not buy, at least make sure they're valid.

I was just stating what I was told by a Nytro owner who traded his in and bought an XP.

For you your info I can change the oil, tranny fluid, change the injectors, glow plugs, install suspension and many other things on my 3 vehicles. I can also do most of the mods on my sleds and bikes.

i was thinking xp all the way untill you said you will have it at least 4 years.

Your buddy is an idiot then and thanks for the red rep whoever got butthurt, lmfao. At least sign it ya chicken chit. The Doo side must be sensitive :D

As for the Nytro vs. XP, they are two completely different sleds. Just depends on what you want. There is no question the Nytro is more reliable and it handles great. BUT, it is heavy and won't highmark with 800's(after a little work you can get them very close). If you're really competitive get the XP. If you just want to ride day in and day out and not mess with the sled for the next four years, get the Yami. You really should test ride both if you can.

Ive had every year REV, 1 RT, and 1 XP....thought i was a doo guy for life, got a turbo M this year.....and i will never look back. The M is just mtn friendly and loves to cut and carve the steepest and deepest. Dont get me wrong, my 06 rev is still fun on the trials;)

Most folks here have no clue who Nikolai is or has done to a REV.....he had one the of th sickest mod revs i ever seen, and did the work himself

Well if you don't want 160HP out of the box and less weight get a nitro or XP. Me I like fast light sleds. And I also like sleds that don't blow belts and ones with motors that last more than 1 season.:D

I have a 09' nytro and love it. I bought the nytro after a year on a 08' 146 xp. the xp is going to out climb it every time, but you're not that far behind
( if you get a run at a hill the nytro gets real close). the nytro is balanced better in the air. I know I don't miss being towed out of petersville 38 miles because my drop brackets broke, my carb boots ripped, my $120 belts keep blowing, or my 800R crank takes a s h i t on you. I really did enjoy my XP, but couldn't put up with thier problems and my dealer sucked. If you buy an 09' like I did at this time of year you can put a new track and skid on it, that will put you close to an xp. good luck

You know, when it comes down to it, sled choice ends up being a personal choice. Other peeps are going to have their own biased opinions. I will NEVER purchase a Yammie, they make a decent thumper motor but aren't trying very hard to reduce weight. I will never buy an M8 because the ergonomics don't fit me. If I were to buy a different sled it would be a Poo, but the D8s are blowing up left and right and I hate the running boards.

I happen to love the way XP fits me, the power to weight ratio and the way the thing handles. Yes, they have their issues but what sled doesn't. My 08 XP was a flawless sled but I replaced the leakey oil tank and an air bubble in the oil line caused my sled to squeek a piston. I got that replaced and she was running great right up until I hit a hidden rock at speeds that would crumple any sled. I got an 09 XP and I love it, just gotta clutch it a little more. If you take care of your 2 stroke you can ride it for years. I have seen many Summit 670s out on the snow this year, My buddy has an 05 Vertical Escape that still runs strong and I know of one guy that has an 05 M8 that has nearly 7000 miles. Its all in how you take care of the sled.

As for an M8 being a better sled, I don't believe it. I have seen quite a few M8s and M1000s attached to the wrong end of a tow rope this season, just as I have seen XPs or Dragons. They are pretty much equal in performance. Riding ability is 90% rider and 10% sled.

The only thing I wish Doo had was fuel injection. My next sled will probably be the 1200 4 stroke when it comes out in a mountain chassis. The stock motor is stronger than the Yammie and when you throw boost at it, it is AWESOME! I saw a 1200 that was converted to a mountain sled this season and it was boosted. That thing was the most unreal sled I have ever seen, it was light, powerful and handled just like my XP, but with 150 more horsepower.

Don't wish to hard, you may get what you wish for. I like the crisp throttle response and ease of carb jetting.

Rode a Dragon 8 this year some. Hammer the throttle and BOG, WAAA, Waa, Boggg, then takes off. I can't handle that bogging crap without being able to fine tune it myself.

Re-mapp, re-mapp, Reflash, Reflash, Bog bog bog, Burn up your engine, waste a whole season. (no thanks)

On the other hand, my buddies M7 fuel injection works perfect. One pull of the rope and it's running, even after being up side down.
