XP oiling

Has anyone turned down the oil mixture on their xp? Ive gone through a gallon so I would say its broken in. How difficult is it? I dont really want to spend $300 to take my sled to the dealer so they can do their "10 hour" checkup.

Have you figured out your usage? You should know that first. Otherwise why would you adjust it?
Simple to do, just follow the cable to the pump on the right hand side, pull back the rubber cover off of the cable & adjust the linkage. A small adjustment go's a long way, start with 1/2 turns at a time. I think factory is 17mm. Double check with your dealer though...

that amounts to 10:1 ..........thats way too rich, the sled should be 50:1

I don't know where you got 50:1 "is where it s/b from", but I would never run it @ that ratio. 38-40:1 is pretty ideal. A little extra oil is some good insurance...I would move the adjuster 1 full turn then test again. Once again I think 17 mm is the right #.

Doos use lots of oil. My ZX and my REV both have the adjuster screwed all the way to the end and still use way to much oil. I just opened my 9th gallon this year for the ride in the morning. Less than 1000 miles this year. I have done the spring on the pump trick and that does not help either. Last year a bent the bracket on the pump so it wouldn't open up so far and had it to about 40:1 ratio. Ran well and smoked very little but my buddy fried his connecting rod bearings and I got worried and bent it back where it was from the factory.
My solution: Buy cheap oil, lots of it. Been using Wall Mart oil for three years now with no problems. $9 per gallon.

My first Doo went back to the dealer several times about the high oil usage. He even changed the pump for free to shut me up. Oil is cheap compared to a fried bottom end.

They run rich...I had the dealer check mine out and they would not touch as it was with in specs. Cheap insurance I guess and the XP oil is pricing reasonably. Mine did slow down a little after 500 miles. I have went through 4 gallons in 800 miles.
