XP Lateral Engine Brace

After years of replacing worn bushings and watching belts break prematurely, we have designed a lateral engine brace kit for the XP that fixes the mill in position while under load.

We were seeing every XP that came in had the engine sitting over to the right. This caused stress on the bushings and made them fail, also the belt was being "Licked" as it left the secondary to match the offset position of the primary. This starts pulling cords out of belts and starts the failure process. Like most of you guys we would loosen the engine mounts and push the engine back over. Some of the newer models don't have a slot and this made adjustments harder. So if they were slotted we'd push them over and put a key in the slot to prevent it walking back over.

Also under torque, the engine / belt pulls the secondary tower forward decreasing the center to center distance and twisting it messing up the x - y skidoo measurements. Over time the secondary position permanently moves forward slightly further decreasing the alignment. As you are aware many companies have a fix for this issue. Our shop likes and deals the Sled Sheds Brace kit to fix thi issue. Other kits are good as well.

What we have done is build a kit that aligns and stops the engine fom moving left under load. It secures the position with tie rod ends so minor movement won't damage the suport rods.

First you install the brace:

Then you install the support rod (between the front engine mounts) with the adjustable positioning link.

Once you have installed everything you turn the aduster rods to acheive the proper alignment. Refer to the racing handbook for this. In extreme cases some engines are way out or maybe the frame is twisted. In this case the engine might need to be moved right so much the ring gear on the primary may contact the bulkhead support. We have fixes for this too..

Here is another pic.

Look how straight the belt is.!!

Something to know about this kit is it saves money. Primary tower caps cost $80, primary sliding half bushings are $12 but secondary sliding half bushings can't be replaced, you have to buy the whole sliding half and it costs $368. (All canada prices). As I said before almost all the sleds that have been in here needed all new bearings. Once you add up all the labour and bushings it is big bucks. Our kit is only $150.00...

All the kits have had great feedback and I gotta say this is a great fix for engine alignment. It is meant to be used with a secondary brace I said before this controls the center to center distance..

Installation takes about two hours for a first timer and requires basic tools and a riveter.

Lastly, we got sick of paying ski doo $368 for a sliding half just to get a $5 dollar bushing, so we now manufacture the oilite bushing for the siding half now. (XP 800). If you need a new bushing call us and save huge dollars..

Cheers..

I have a more than a half a dozen and no issue yet. A few of them ride every weekend. and it has made their clutching spot on.. clutching is cooler as well..

Lateral Brace

I installed one of these kits back in November and my alignment is now spot on. I was lucky enough to know about this problem and was able to get my sliding half replaced under warranty. After getting the service completed, my alignment was still way out. I initially installed a clutch tower brace but only after installing the lateral brace did my clutches truly line up.

This kit is well designed and install is relatively simple.

Thanks Redline

Interesting............................Looks like it should work pretty good. "Honey, I might have to spend another $150 on my sled":face-icon-small-ton
