XP gas gauge

Anyone else having problems with their gas gauge on an 08 XP? Half way through my ride yesterday the gauge showed low fuel and then the dummy light came on. When I got on the trail back to town it started showing half tank which was correct. Does anyone have a manual way to check fuel level in the field? I hate to rely on an electric gauges.

Mine does that too. I've made it 74 miles on a tank, and I've made it 44 miles on a tank! So figuring the mileage thingy is kinda tough, but I know I can get at least 44!

pull out ur airbox and check the fuse. it is a .25 amp fuse u will have to get from ur dealer or go to a Radio Shack. that is what was wrong with mine. if that doesn't work mover ur float it sometimes sticks

I don't think it's the fuse, if it was you would get no reading or at least the same reading. I believe I am having the same problem. The gauge works but is totally inconsistent. I can park and the low fuel dummy light is on and when I crank back up I will have 3\4 tank.

same

looks like im in the same boat, fuel light came on i thought it was odd, i put in 29lt of fuel, i just wish they had the clear piece of fuel line on the side of the tank like some of the old sleds had, you never had to wonder was even better that the clear tank
\i hope there is a fix

Mine worked flawlessly all last year, up until last ride. I knew I had fuel, but when the bars disappear & the light comes on you begin to wonder. I just installed a new in tank float assembly. Will know after this weekend if that is the fix.

Mine just got done at the dealer for the same thing. They said they had to get a new fuel sending unit? I guess we'll see if it works this week.

The fuel level problem was supposed to be fixed by a DOO sevice bulletin to do with a wiring upgrade \ ECM reflash.

I had the update done when my drive shaft was replaced Late November, but fuel level still goes screwy now and then

Mine always shows a few bars lower when climbing. I have never ran out of fuel yet, but it always makes me wonder.

Make sure the sending unit is at the 12 o'clock position by the arrow on the rubber grommet I had the same porblem but somehow the grommet turns in the tank.

Clean the fuse contact areas and the fuse holder contacts, put a dab of dielectric grease on them. Mine showed empty when full one min then half tank the next when full, I cleaned the contacts and it worked again. Seams to be fine for now.

My light has been on for the last 10 rides or so. Fill it up--stays on. Doesn't make any noise like the rattling float on the zx's though! My dealer fixed it last year (temporarily). You guys think it's the fuse? Where is it? Behind which part of the airbox?
