So how are people mounting their XP Gas cans? (154" track)

Towards tail light or against seat?

Shape of can seams to fit better against tail light but not sure I like it sitting way out there.

When against the seat, are people mounting it tapered side facing the seat or away.

Any pics?

Can't make up my mind which way I like it.

I would go towards the seat so there is less weight towards the back....better handling, less weight off the skis if you climb with it on there.

Towards the seat with the spouts facing the tail. :beer;

I would of agreed with most of ya awhile back but have seen two warranty claims rejected from the can rubbing against the gas tank and causing damage. it fits so much better at the back, I am absolutely sure you cannot tell the difference between it there and not.

fits perfect against seat,,more weight toward center of sled.

I just couldn't pull out my wallet and buy that stupidly designed adapter for my rev can. Why can't BRP come out with a can made specificlly for the XP like they did for the rev that doesn't look like some abortion after thought. Anyways 2.5 gals insn't enough so you still need something else for a fiver. I took a old hockey stick cut the shaft in two and mounted it on my tunnel. The fivers I use have little detents in the at the bottom so I mounted the shaft so it would fit right under it. The can rides about 1/4" above the heat exchange. I used 2 1/4"X 1-1/4 bolts on each side to mount the wood. It was pretty much free and I think it worked out really well.

I couldn't decide how to mount mine either. I even thought about returning it. However, I did install it and am very happy with how it fits. Only problem is the irrelevant instructions.

I put it on against the seat/tank of my 163, with the spout/vent forward against the seat. The can supports overlap on the cooler lips about 1/4" with the front holes drilled just off the edge of the cooler. The back holes were drilled to keep the supports parallel, and fit against the curve of the cooler rivet tabs.

The strap hooks were then set in from the tunnel edge about an inch. Actually one of the factory indents worked for the front hole of the hook mount, which made it easy.

This placement made for a very secure, well fitting can, that just snugs up perfect against the sled tank.

Sorry for the thousand words, I'll try and get a close up of the mounts posted for you. I don't like drilling without knowing if it's going to work either.

Photos of gas can mount

Here's some close-ups of my gas can mount. Really happy with how solid it mounted. Hope the pictures loaded properly!!!

Anybody have there's "exit" the sled? Mine is set-up like the last pic and I have had it eject 3 times on big bumps. It hasn't done it empty, only when full. I guess you REALLY need to CRANK it down eh?

No, I haven't had any trouble and have ridden trail in and out with it full (this 800R seems better on fuel than the 800HO).

I guess I must be cranking it down more. (I'm assuming you have the new set up with the additional strap as shown in the attached picture.)

Yup. That's the strap I have. I'm gonna get in the habit of topping off my tank at about 30 miles or so. Get the weight off the back, so i can FLY on the way home.;)

Mine exited twice on choppy long trail...full of fuel. I had moved the mount slightly to mount my 2-up seat (this is my wife's sled...no...not the XP but the 2 up seat. She will see more sled time with that seat than another sled in the barn). My buddies rode the same trail and no loss. What I think happened (behind seat and spouts to rear) was that if there is an iota of slack or movement of the can on the rack...it will work lose. The mount needs to be just slightly larger or spread out so the can wedges down on it...and when straps are sucked down there is zero movement. Live and learn. I will take some tube rubber and see if I can tighten it up next trip. Goose
