xp engine went down

Sorry to hear it, I hope my post yesterday didn't encourage you to push your sled to the "POP" point? I was just interested in the comparison between yours and your buddys on the climbs with and without clutch weight.:eek:

engine

my engine came apart this week and found a siezd center pto brg, brp would not let dealer install short block just a complete crank assembly, they had no reason why it went down so this worries my when i get it back there is usually a reason something like this happens. All i know is the dealer and brp will hate to know me if it goes down for the same thing again.!!!!!!!!!

Makes a guy feel real warm and fuzzy when you get it back and drop into an area that you know the chances of towing something out of are slim doesn't it. :(

Ski Doo didn't fix the clutch from last year and y pipe bolts are still falling out. I wonder if they fixed what ever was making so many motors go down last year? I really wanted to buy one of these sleds. I think I'm now leaning towards the nytro mtn. hopefully they will put a longer track on it next year. Light weight is great, but not if it's at the dealer getting fixed all the time.

I think my blood is changing colors!!

Just came back from dealer, lean burn down on one side. Other piston looked perfect. They cant find why it did it, everything looked great. Bottom end looked great, I checked it out with the dealer and it does not appear to have any problems. BRP told them to put in new pistons, new cylinders, clean everything else out and put her back together. My dealer had the mechanic checking out the carbs but they looked fine and were jetted the same. My dealer was thinking of shimming the needle a bit to richen up the midrange.

They should have the parts and have it back together by the end of next week. I am out of town for new years, so should pick it back up on the 3rd or 4th.

for what it's worth, the needle has only one clip position, but you can shim it with one of the kits made for that (forget who makes them, but i see them advertized in the mags)....i put the purple ones in mine, seems to work well...i also put an egt on my sled, can't see any hot spot in the mid-range, but it pays to always keep the throttle moving so that the temps can't climb due to a lean spot

exhaust temp guage

I have a koso guage and one cylinder runs 60 degrees hotter than the other bone stock xp sled and i checked it with a infra red temp guage to double check read the same:confused:

we found that with the BB that the mag runs hotter than the pto and ended up jetting the two cylinders differently to compensate

keep in mind that brp sold more xps than other makers combined did.... so there will be a few more storys to read on the web than the other manufachers have:beer;

we checked the plugs on a buddys stock xp last week at the top of a long pull and i was surprised to see how lean they have these sleds running, almost looked to lean... as for the neddles i do know when i put in a 10tho shim to raise them, my engine begins to bogg, keep that in mind... maybe just puting in a bigger pilot jet might be the answer

I hate to analyze this in my head. But do you guys thing that the HPS can has anything to do with it? I have one running great in Cooke city right now. But after reading about T/As motor going down and then BOHELLs it make a guy wonder?

I understand that T/A was a bearing/crank issue. But thats not to say that something was causing the high heat to start the failure.

What side was the burndown on yours ( bohells ) Was it the Mag side?
