Was riding today and this piece came off.

I screwed it back in but it started coming loose again, so I ran the rest of the day with out it.

1- Is it's only function to open secondary to change belts?
2- Can I continue to run w/o it?
3- Did I lose anything or is it just the piece & flat washer?

Shortly there after, I did burn up a belt, but I have no idea how many miles were on the belt. The replacement belt seems good after the ride.

This was my first ride on this sled with 1700 miles on it.
Secondary seemed to make a "hiss" noise that I am not used to.
I think I am just paranoid, but have a trip planned & want some confidence that this rascal is ready to go.

XP owners, please give me your feedback.

Thanks

Thats your belt height adjuster. You should have two allen screws on either side of the threaded part and if you don't have it in there, the belt will sit way down deep inside your secondary clutch and eventually burn up your belt. Put some blue loctite on the threads and screw it back in as tight as you can with a large cresent wrench or pipe wrench. I'll check my shop manual to see what the specified torque is, if any.

Yep...lots of blue loctite and 70+ft lbs.....if installed correctly it will not come out. That's all there is is the washer and then the adjuster. I would put it back in, the bet will be way too tight without it and make the sled hard to start and creep/squeel at idle.
