XP busted driveshaft

So the other day i was climbing a chute and befor i knew it i was over my hood piled into the snow. First thought was the belt cas in the last 200 mile i have gone through 3. but when i opened the panel everything was fine.??? turns out the between the drivers and the chaincase the shaft broke or seperated or somthing. What the hell!! The sled definatly rips but if its not one thing breaking its another. 3 belts, wobbly clutch (bushings i think),no hand warmers, and now this??

broken XP

hmmm not good, but first I have heard of a broken drive shaft.. I have bent some in my older REVs (due to hitting stuff when racing).. on the belts, did you remove the plastic clutch cover, the tool box, and the MAG side sound insulation? My first run I had the sled stock and the pulleys/belt was so hot the belt was de-laminating... took the crap off and the belt and pulleys stayed very cool

stand corrected... see several posts on busted drive shafts... not good

what track length and gearing please?

From what I understand, it's a fixable problem. Seems like Doo might have forgot to check a few of these when they came off the assembly line. Seems a few of them slipped through without being welded. Apperantly you can look and see if it's been welded, and have it welded if not. There not on back order, and if one breaks, SD is overnighting them to any dealers that need them. I'll be getting mine checked before I go out again.

From what I understand none are welded at the factory it is a press fit.

I was just reading a thread on DT about this. Over there it sounds like a "no weld" design. One guy said he tried to order a spare and they were back ordered. Hopefully it is just an issue with a few sleds and not a serious recall that costs everyone riding time.:(

I'm not positive, but from what I was told, there all pressed on, and there's supposed to be a weld next to them. Some of them didn't get the weld, and there the ones that are breaking. I haven't seen any of them, but was told to go check mine and see if it was welded.

Yea it does look like its just a press fit, theres deffinatly no weld so if theres suposto be one, ...well theres not. As to the hot belt issue i did make 2 vents on the clutch panel and take out my tool case plastic and i think its breathing pretty well but i do have a pretty distinct rumble comming out at high rpm, which is new since about 160 miles.

More than likely you're arms are gummed up & hanging up in primary. Sounds right w/your miles. Pull primary & clean up bushings on arms.
