XP belt update

Just small steps, I haven't been able to ride and tune yet(no time to ride and the only time I've been able to is Search and Rescue) I added one 12mm set screw to the one existing from stock. Running the 253 belt, no issues at 4-7k. I was thinking about a softer primary spring though. Gearing....well......I am going to change a few sleds but think I can keep stock gearing and simply work on the clutching aspect. I think the ratio from stock isn't all bad.

EDIT: Venting is still the primary concern. Trying to get vent kits is almost impossible at this point, removing the stock plastic, both on the clutch guard and on the mag side of the motor(ziptying the wires to the frame) seems to help but not the end all.

3 Belts 250 miles

I have mega venting, tryed the blue blue 130*290 primary and it is much nicer engagement and still holds rpm. Boy I sure hope the dealer will warranty these belts. Put in a new ski doo belt at beginning of day and was gone by 1.5 hours of riding. Clutches seemed cooler with the spring. I also have 2 12mm set screws. On clicker 3 and 8250rpm at 6500 foot.

Someting very very wong here.

I installed A new xs 803 and it performed well, time will tell.

Nothing wrong with the 166 belt, it's all in the settup. Tried to blow a belt on 2 sleds today in waist deep and couldn't do it, ran out of gas and energy and belts were fine. The softer belt will be a little better with the crappy clutch settup Doo went with, but not as good as it can be.

71 miles on the sled at it finally blew a belt. I heat soaked it. Check it constantly for wear and tear and nothing, everything seemed fine. Then on the way back to the truck after a day of riding, at 8233 Rpms it blew up like grenade. Cords and belt pieces went everywhere.

Dealer sold me some other kind of belt called Carlisle Ultrimax 3. Are these belts junk? I typically ride with two spare belts and Doos are getting expensive.

Theres nothing special about the carlisle ultrimax 3, but i assume its cheaper than a BRP belt. You are rite about the doos belts gettin expensive

Almost like CRACK...maybe we could get BRP indicted for marketing addictive substances:D

Who knows it could end up costing more than CRACK! Certainly addictive. Not hearing a belt blow. Riding the sled. Are any dealers warranty these belts. Mine told me to just buy a new one BRP is looking into it. So are other dealers giving out replacements or is everyone else paying for them as well? Keeping my old belt though. Whats left of it.

Winter Brew, What clutch set up do you have that is working so well with the 166?

Just doing the same things that have traditionally worked with a TRA....alot of primary weight and a shallower progressive helix. 44/33 and about 17-18g of weight, also geared down 1 tooth on a 163 to a 20.
A harder belt works great it just needs to be squeezed harder. Look at Yamaha.....bet is hard as a rock, that's why they rarely fail and last forever, but they also use huge primary weight. If Doo goes with a soft belt I think they are making a mistake, but they will sell even more belts in the long run since they will wear quicker.

146” track: 23/45
154” Powder Max: 21/45
154” track (EUR): 23/49
163” track: 21/49

was just going by owners manual
146 21/45
154 20/45
163 19/45

must have changed after it was printed

I have started carrying two spare blelt. And hope I can hide from the crowd when changing them. But today a yammy cought me changing one and laughed at me. He has over 800 miles on his he said. Also three times the hp. I still love my bike.
