XP belt update

Was at my dealer today with my two belts with threads hanging out all over the place. Needed a new belt for the after Christmas ride. Asked about getting the belts warrantied. They said Doo is aware of the belt problem. Said they had been contacted last week by BRP and they said an updated belt would be availible after Christmas. No word on anything for updating the clutching or gearing, just the belt. They did say make sure you hang onto your old trashed belts as you will be able to exchange them for the new belt. New belt is supposed to be softer, stickier and alittle wider. I dont buy it that it is just a belt problem, but if they are going to trade in my old belts for new I'll be one happy guy.

still tryin

Thought I had my issues fixed. have 210 miles on this last belt and started losing performance this evening. pulled it in my garage to find more cords. I can see a black line around the outer edges of the sheaves of my drive clutch like its not able to properly grip the belt in top. maby one more tooth taken out of the case? ill find out soon.

My prediction.....they will just start issuing the softer race belt to compensate for their lack of weight (belt squeeze) in the primary. If they do this, it is nothing but a bandaid for their poor clutch settup. The problem is 100% fixable with proper settup and the existing belt, stock settup isn't even close to "correct".

winter brew is probably correct! i'll just wait for a good clutch kit and go for it! people usually have pretty good results with these kits anyway! now if i can only get the dealer to forkout for the cost..:)

Have you opened up the primary and checked to see if the arms were seizing up?

I would say its the belts.....I got 225 miles on my xs803 and it looks perfect and barely any belt dust

Also its dealer setup clutching too

Yep, the effect of runing a softer belt (like the XS or a Doo race belt) is virtually identical to running the stock 166 hard belt and adding 2-4g of primary weight. Doo probably figures it's easier to put on a belt (and sell additional belts) than it is to pull a clutch on every sled sold to add some pin weight. A belt and/or pin weight is only a partial fix for the Summits, there are better settups to be had.

Finally blew a belt today (435 miles). Threads everywhere! Installed the "race" belt and it seems to pull harder. Clutch testing in Canada over new years will tell. :D

What is the part # on the race belt?

253, or the 288 is the new race belt #. I've been running the 253 this year, without any problems, and less belt dust than the 166's. I was told the update was going to be just add some weight to the clutch. Probably between 20-25g to get it to shift out all the way. I'm gonna try it for this weekend and see how it goes.

What does Dynamoe Joe have up his sleeve for this sled??

The clutch setup he sent me for my 06 800 Summit was absolutely spot on.

Pulled my primary apart last night while waiting for Santa. No weight in the pins. The pins that were there weighed just shy of 11 grams. Cleaned everything real good. Installed my quick clickers and about 3.8u grams to the hollow pin. The pin and weight now weigh about 14.8 grams. we'll see where this gets me tomarrow.

Mine were sticky. When I disassembled my clutches, when it was new, to clean the cosmolene I noticed the arms were not moving freely. Fixed them after running it thru the dishwasher. :face-icon-small-hap

Dealer says BRP is working on a new belt maybe wider or shorter or both. Could be out in January. BRP knows there is a problem with belt heat.

Their is a problem with the belts part# 417300166 some widths out of spec. Supposed to be 36mm alot are narrower. This may sound stupid but try running your next new belt ( before you run it ) in the dishwasher for about 20mins.

I've been giving my guys with belt problems the 253 belt and adding pin weight if I had the time(or the sled in my posession) I'm almost out of belts after this week and I had 2 dozen to begin the week. But only 2 were due to XP's.
