XP Air Box Mod's?????? Anyone!!!!!!!

I did my airbox last night. Put 2 2.5" flow rites in the back of the box by the gas tank. I also relocated the intake air temp sensor from the upper airbox tube to the airbox by the carbs. Worked very well. Didnt notice in gain in hp?rpm, but eliminated the bogging in over the hood powder that cloggs up the stock intake.

you have to let me know how the map sensor relocation works out... i always thought it needs the air rushing by it to get a good sense for the computer?? keep us informed

Curious to know how you already know no gain in HP, RPM, & bogging when you just did this last night??????????????

Over 50 miles in over the hood snow all day yesterday, thats how. All the other XP's were bogging bad. Its the "seat O the pants" dyno. Just didnt seem to have any advantage over the other XPs' when they werent bogging. Its a cheap mans fix for sure. Go spend $300 on Bondis box if you want, it is much much cleaner, but will still bog when the intake vent gets plugged with over the hood pow.

As far as where the location goes. Its a temp sensor not a MAP sensor. On the pre 08 800's the sensor is in the top of the airbox and its in the top of the airbox on the 600 SDI as well, not in a place where there is "rushing air". Timbersleds mounts their sensor outside of the intake filters on thier 800 intake.

Time & Date must be off when on the posts.

Keep us informed, I was thinking you might not get enough "In-Flow" from the flowrites, they actually don't allow much air movement. If you take a hair dryer and hold it 2-3 inchs from either direction, you will not feel any flow on the opposite side, but if you hold it directly on to the surface you can.

You think you are getting enuf air in???????????

i just put a row of 1 inch holes along the top of my outer airbox, it works great and they fit right between the little ribs in the box and the air still goes into the filter, now when i lay the sled over and the filter is covered it still runs great, no more bogging for me. its an even simpler fix and it flows fine. last winter every time the filter clogged i felt like i was riding a detuned sled, oh wait, i was. now this doesnt happen though. making carves with the filter under the snow it still rips.

On my 04 RMK I drilled the back of the airbox with more than 100 holes and then covered that with Flow-Rite material.

I then talked to Indy Dan and he said I was hurting my performance due to the intake of hot air instead of cold air.

What is your thought on hot air vs cold air intake on the REV, I've been running RMK's since late 01 and now have a new XP.

Idaho, I was just happy it stopped bogging when snow was coming over the hood like it was the last time I rode it in deep powder. I do think a more free flowing material would work better than the flowrites, but they were all I had at 10:00 at night. I'm going to work in it somemore.

did the flow rite in the side and seen good improvments, but i also run a head and can so maybe its a combo improvement?

I talked to Turbo Al this morning about this issue. He is suggesting 2 1" holes with flowrite material. He said that you don't want the flow (under hood heat) until the flapper valve in the upper box closes.

I wil do this mod to mine tonight. It is bogging to the point of getting stuck in powder so hopefully this cures it.

What causes the flapper to close? I do not think that you want holes in your airbox unless they are covered with some kind of material like flowrite material. If you suck some snow powder in at 8200rpm you can kiss your engine goodbye.

Don't ingest belt dust with your fixes. You can do a "back scoop" scupper thingie that makes the powder blow by the intake and keeps it clean. I have taped a piece of cardboard for a flap over vent holes before in deep powder with duct tape...took it off later. KISS? Goose
