If Cat can use the same chassis for all of their M series then why couldn't skidoo put their 1000 in a xp platform?

because they dont produce it anymore...and for a reason. theres no reason why you cant put one in an xp. but doo will never put that old 1000 in the xp. maybe a new version

Sorry I realize they have not made the 1000 since 07. I was just wondering why they went to a different chassis to put it in.

1000 was only made in 05/06

im not sure why i just know the 1000 had its share of issues that they never dealt with just ditched it.

Actually it was made 05-07. By the time the mapping was figured out by BRP, the damage from the poor runnability (05 and 06 mapping) and the weight penalty caused snow check sales to suffer to the point that it was dropped in 08. It was actually in the initial 08 brochure.

what motor would you put into an rt? as you know i lost a piston. thinking of doing one rebuild (unless crank is shot) then transplanting.

I would keep the 1000 SDI in the RT chassis. The chassis is over built for an 800. The problems that have resulted in engine failures haven't been caused by the motor internals themselves rather the issues the sled has outside the motor, ie: an overdesigned cooling system with no thermostat, poor mapping with too fat of a low and top end with too lean of a mid range and deceleration, excessive belt dust getting into the motor, low pressure fuel pump failures causing lean issues, y-pipes collapsing.

Luckily, these issues can be fixed, it just takes money and time. The only draw back in my mind with the sled is the weight penalty. If I still had a 1000 SDI and needed a top end, I would strongly be considering the BMP 1100. A well tuned 1100 is in a different league than the 1000 unless the 1000 has underwent excessive and expensive weight reduction through aftermarket suspension and skids.
