trying to put a 98 700xc motor in a 2002 edge cassis. anybody been here before? mostly concerned with the motor plate and mounts. Any help would be appreciated.

Lots of people have done it. It will bolt right in, it's physically the same size and mounts work fine. The issues you will face are:
1 - Pipe angle - The VES motors in the Edge had a different exhaust angle on them.
2 - Intake length - You'll have to get a set of Edge carb adapters to get the spacing right to get the airbox on.
3 - Fuel pump/oil supply. The 98, if memory serves, injected oil into the fuel pump where as the later motors injected in to the carbs. You'll have to figure that out be either using the 98 pump or changing to the later oil feed system.
4 - Misc wiring length stuff that you will have to tweak.
But it isn't horribly difficult to do.

i put a 98 600 in a 05 edge useds mounts and straps for the edge cdi off a 98 700,used the edge carbs and oil pump and the stock 700 edge pipe works awesome its pulling a 159 track and keeps up with 02 mountain cat with no problem good luck on your build ill help in any way i can
