x3 track power needed?

so I wen to the dealer ship and had them install a 156 x3 track on my mostly stock 2013 pro and they did the 7 tooth drivers but I want to hear from some guys that have been running this with stock power. or what your doing for motor mods.

thanks

I am running an X3 with a stock motor but clutching mods were done by Carl's. I have the 162" but I also ride with a lot of guys running the 156" with stock motors. They work fine. Plenty of go power and no warranty voiding issues. I suppose that more power is nice if it is usable but it is not necessary. The track makes a big difference. I understand that the 156" versions are more prone to lifting the skis more than you might want. Several of my friends have added the option that includes a bicycle shock in the back that you can lock out from the handlebars. Apparently this keeps them more balanced. It has never been an issue for me with the 162" X3 so I will not spend the money to put the lockout shock on mine.

hey thanks for the info I was going back and forth between doing the track or doing an slp stage 3 kit.

first off search; this has been discussed in several threads.

we did it on my dads. still on stock clutching so there is room for improvement but overall i like it. i've only ridden it once but tomorrow will have it and my stock track stock power sled for side my side comparison.

one thing about the track is its a couple hours time to swap back to stock and you can take it with you and use it for several years .... slp kit is going with the sled when you sell it

I did. .
156 X3. 7t Avids. NOT centerpunched.
Stock engine.
Some clutching.

It's a tractor in the deep.
AWESOME.

I'd like to try a gear-down kit, but with my carcass size, I probably don't need it.

2014 Pro with 156 3"
7t drivers
Stock motor
Kmod skid
TKI belt drive
Kurts polaris clutch kit

My sled is geared down to 2.52ish(can't remember off hand exactly as I bought a few different gears to try). I personally feel there is more than enough power for the riding I do. But I do not do a bunch of hill climbing. In most conditions it feels like it has more power than my stock 12 pro had. I attribute that to the massive increase in traction over the stock track.

Scott, I did the same in 13 and they still need geared down. I was an inch and a quarter down on the drive clutch. You couldn't get gearing in 13. How is yours? I had 68 gram MTX and a tied. Gear down is a must imo.

Not sure what you're asking me.

that would be awesome if you let us know the side by side test goes..

Sled is a little tougher to steer. Track pushes the sled a bit more in corners. Once you get off trail it's worth it. Powder doesn't feel down that much of at all. Holds a side hill very well in steeper hills. Can thread through steep, tight trees with less track speed so the back end doesn't slide down and makes a narrower path (hopefully that makes sense). Rpm is down to about 8-8100 where mine is pulling 8250-8300.

I've had a new 3" and drivers in my shop for a year but haven't been motivated to put it on .... But I think I will after getting more miles on it.

What have some of you guys with the 156 3" tracks done for suspension setup changes?
I moved my skid back like Carls recomended but it seems really stiff now? I push on the rear bumper the suspension gets so stiff about halfway through the stroke I cant push it down any further.
I can put a 6x6 under the rear and front of the track on the rails and collapse each torque arm individually but together it seems really stiff. Am I missing something?
Thinking of moving it back forward but carls says it will be a do big wheelies all the time and that means big trenching in the pow.

You'll like it on a climb. It won't wheelie as much, but will feel stiff in the trees and on the trail.

As mentioned above, I run the 162 by 3" X3. I changed the skis to SLP Mohawks. That change greatly helped the steering. I cut them slightly at the inside back to help in crusty conditions since the ski bites hard. It rolls up in those conditions as easy as the stock skis did now. It is the best mod that I have ever done and it leaves the warranty intact which is important to me. My friend who is younger and better than me took my sled straight up some spots a few weeks ago that he could not go straight up on his sled with the stock 163" track. It is a big game changer. I also feel no need to gear it down any further than what you get when you go from 8 tooth to 7 tooth drivers. My seat of the pants feel tells me that you lose about 10 to 15 mph on the top end with the 7 tooth drivers. I am also still getting 8200+ rpm with the X3 track. My rpms didn't change very much at all from the stock track.

i am running a 163 3" and could not be any happier. i just did a clutch kit from roosteruilt and it made a HUGE improvement over the stock set up. i defenitly reccomend them. personally do not think you need to gear the sled any lower. look in the stickys about the gear reducion suff. some really great info there. i am running a 13:1 head, mtntek kit and minor port cleaning and polish with roostebuilt clutching. and it flat out rips. i mostly crash into trees all day long. it wheelies all day long with this set up. i dont think it needs lower gearing. just good clutch set up. just my .02
