WSDOT Avalanche photos

Wow those pics really give you a good understanding of why they shut the passes down for days. The guy with the tractor and trailer is one lucky S.O.B. Thanks for sharing.

My dad used to tell me about running the old plows up on two lane Stevens and how you really had to watch it or take a trip into the canyon... my grandfather worked on the rescue and recovery of the railroad disaster.. they both told me about the huge and fast avys that would come down... they both used to talk about the "stupid 206ers" building ski cabins in avy shoots.. someday they will all be taken out

My dad works for the WSDOT driving plows, etc. and he's been pumping for the past month. I sent him the link. This should definitely give him plenty of story ammo.

Actually, some are funny. One in particular cracked me up. He usually tries to shut the sand off when somebody passes. However, one day it was snowing and icing up so bad you couldn't hardly walk on it. He saw a nice Porsche diving in and out of the line of cars stacked up behind him to get ahead. Finally, it was behind him. He saw him go to pass and left the sand on as he didn't want to create a bare spot. He said it sounded like a machine gun with all the sand hitting the Porsche's paint. :D Said the guy got next to him flipping him off and honking, then gunned it past him. 300 yards past he spins out and goes off the road. My dad said the guy jumped out flipping my dad off and screaming. He laughed and waved and kept going. Tons of those stories...

You know just because someone is being an idiot doesn't mean one should sink to that level too. :)

Let the guy in the porsche be stupid.

Take the high road and let them do what they will.

I've got to ask it: WTF are you talking about????

The story I just wrote.

What was he supposed to do? Kill the sand so one idiot can pass without scratching his paint while the convoy of cars behind him takes a chance without the sand? That's a matter of the common good. Sorry dude... I don't think that's a dick move. When it's that slick and you're pouring sand out as fast as it will go, the guy that feels like he needs to pass you is on his own. Shutting off the sand for just a few seconds could mean a 50-foot or more patch of bare road.

Now there's a prime example of a DUMBAZZ comment.....un-frickin-believable!

I say props to your Dad and "justice served" to the race car driver....got what was coming to him!
