Wrong size pistons for rt 1000

Was doing some reading and dicovered that the 1000 has 2 different sized pistons. I just put 2 brand new pistons in and my motor blew up. There is an A side and a B side and each have a matching piston to go in. The dealer gave me 2 new pistons and one is 1 mill over and the other is 1 mill under.
ie A side takes 87.86 mm and B side takes 87.88mm and the new pistons are 87.87mm for both.
Has this happened to anyone else and what should I do now????

I think all replacement pistons, OEM or aftermarket come in the 87.87mm size, thats what mine were. Theve been working fine.
I think most of the 1000's came with the A type piston and some came with the B or vise versa can't remember right now. It will be stamped on the top of your old pistons. It will be one or the other in there.

My sled has an A and a B piston 87.88 and 87.86 the new pistons were 87.87 never new the old ones were a different size till I cleaned the tops off (too little to late I might add) Anyhow drove 14 k and ended up with total engine failure ie Rod bearing went out wrecking the crank and putting a hole in the crankcase. Anyhow the dealer says they are going to pay for damages will find out the final details tomorrow.
So if anyone is planning to do the top end of a 1000 make sure you know what pistons to put back in!!!
Have a great day!

i am one for doing things right and making sure everything is as it should be but in the case of the pistons on the 1000 your only dealing with .0004" that is with the .87 to the .86 which is not going to make any difference at all but i do understand that piece of mind is good so why not put them in the right place hope it all works out ok

hey, i just burnt a hole through one of my pistons 2 weeks ago(2200 km)on an 05, i am rebuilding the top end now, the nicasil on my cylinder wall was damaged at the exhaust port. I ordered a set of spx(spi) pistons. I boxed up my cylinders and pistons and shipped it too mongoose engineering in Port coquitlam, where theryre gonna renicasil the cylinder, hone both cylinders and make sure that both pistons fit properly. Theryre also going port and polish intake/exhaust since the engine is already apart. Ive never used mongoose before so ill let you know how it went once i get the engine back together.
It seems the sdi 1000 blows up alot from what i hear and read.

Well something made a big difference, I only drove 14 km with the wrong size pistons and now the whole engine is destroyed! It says in the manual to make sure you put the right piston in the right cylinder. When we had the engine apart everything everything was tight including the rods, now there is play everywhere including the other rod.
I think alot of the 1000 problems are because alot of people don't know there are 2 different cylinders in some of these sleds.

Mongoose does very nice work and it will be a better job than the OEM job. Had mine done there as well.
As for pistons mine had the the same on each side, can't remember off hand if its A or B, I put in Pro X pistons which are identical to the stockers. I replaced my crank while I had it apart, I figured with all that belt dust in there cant be good, going on 300kms and no problems.

Brp has actually confirmed that the piston sizes do make a difference and have agreed to send out the parts that got damaged because of this. Keeping my fingers crossed till they get here Yahoo!
