Wrecked XRS needs work

S
I hit a rock solid with my left ski on my XRS early in the season and compacted my bulkhead (nun) real bad. I just put it aside and wrote it off as a summer project. I am going to tear into this thing soon and need to start getting a plan together. Other than the damaged bulkhead this sled is in sweet shape so I would realy like to fix it up right. Has anyone here dealt with this fix and what can I expect?

If it's just the nun, about $250-$300 and 8 hours worth of work for the first time.
Make sure the plate behind the nun is good, it can be replaced for another $30. Make sure the frame isn't bent behind the clutches or behind the silencer, but thaat can usually be fixed too. I've done a couple if you have questions. :beer;

If that plate is bent,,,don't listen to shop that says it doesn't need to be replaced,I've come across one shop in particular that boldly said "Ah,,just beat it with a big fawking hammer,,,it'll be good" The next time you so much as touch something,you'll be doing the job all over again.

both guys are right. if that plate behind the nun is bent just replace it. Its a bigger pain in the a** to try and shape it to work.

Winterbrew has helped me out on a few problems ive had. Hes a reliable source. he is right about making sure both the side pieces are straight. I had a piece fabbed up on both sides as a reenforcement.

The metal frame plates that run on each side of the motor are split on each side. If I turn or side hill left the motor tweaks closer to the secondary and the belt slips.

I bent my nun.. Not that bad to do yourself.. grind the rivets off, & get an air rivet gun. Can be done in a day.

DO you have insurance? Easily a total.
Another thing to think about is buying a complete tunnel assy from Doo for about $1900. Has the frame, tunnel, coolers etc....already assembled. you just start transfering everything over. I believe it still also needs the nun assy so about $2200 I would think....but would be like new.

My dealers estimate was about 5K to fix. I am interested in this Idead of a whole new tunnel assembly. Anymore thoughts on this? Would it be a whole lot easier just to replace the broken parts?

Judging from your past history, you might want to add a big *** front bumper and some kind of ejection seat...
