Wrapping Turbo pipes

Ok so Im trashing a good boondockin' almost vertical hill and my turbo goes all fat on me in the fuel department. So I get er back down to the bottom and do an inspection to find the biggest smiley face ever in the pipe. Now we're using the stock pipe for the m1000, which Im told is better than using an actual turbo pipe. Is the answer having these pipes wrapped with header pipe or is there something even better out there. I was only spoolin' 9 lbs of boost when this lil issue occurred which ended up burning everything under the hood. Thx SLEDIOT

Ive seen my buddies wrapped TM1000 and 1200 with stock pipes, pop holes too. I would guess wrapping might gave em a bit more life, but cracks were pretty frequent.

They quit having pipe problems when they went with the thick wall OVS pipe. They still wrap them, but now I believe its just for heat and performance. The pipe seems to give them a lot better bottom end performance and I have yet to see them develop a crack. Been a few years now, still crack free.

Good Luck!

Do you think the OVS turbo pipe is compatible with my Twisted turbo though? Id hate to throw a different twist into it and cause other issues.

The stock pipes are pressed together and then tacked. I have had the best luck cutting the whole seam off on both sides and running a good bead on it. Then wrap that sucker! The wrap will help keep heat in the pipe and out of the engine compartment and also dampen vibration (just in case you have any). The OVS pipe should work good on all turbo applications because the flow characteristics of the pipe are setup for boost. I would ask Shain if he has tried them, or has any customers that have and I am sure you will get some input there.

Unless he changed the port timing a bunch, it should work really well. Like Racin said, they were built for boost. I dont know of anyone who took one off, once it was tuned.

Twisted and OVS don't mount the turbo in the same location, so you would have to reconfigure the pipe end / turbo inlet, but that shouldn't be that hard as long as it didn't effect performance

Was chattin with my sled dealer/turbo install guy tonight. Probably going to look into the OVS pipe and talk to Shain with some other ideas. I kinda want this thing to hold together while torment the Rocky mtns.
