I'm new to this and have narrowed it down to a new Yamaha. Would there be any reason not to use the WR instead of the YZ? I like the idea of the headlight. On yamaha's website all of th specs look the same. Any input would be appreciated.

Go fx the starter works way better and was not an afterthought. The engine on the fx is the most recent tech with a starter the wr is basically an 06 yz with a starter ... Fx has by the butt feel way more power ..

Sent from my fax machine

FX is 10 lbs lighter, has programable ECU, different valving on suspension, uncorked exhaust as the WR is green sticker approved. Not sure on the motor internals in comparison but i do know compared to the yz motor the fx has different cams for the e-start, heavier crank and flywheel. It easy to add a light to the fx

the new 2016 wr is the new style engine identical to the fx, its just detuned. it has the new rearward engine and layout. the wr is a detuned fx with softer forks. the fx is the better snowbike, better forks, no throttle stop, better ecu, etc. the wr will work but its gonna cost u a bunch to hop it up to an fx spec. with the wr u will want to do: throttle stop out, exhaust, competition ecu kit, fork work. the fx is the better choice, its cheaper to add lights to an fx than it is to start with lights and add / remove all the other crap to a wr to hop it up.

FX for sure. the WR is heavy and too soft. it's a trail bike 100%. the racier the better for snow bikes.

Yep, I rode a '14 WR with exhaust uncorked, ECU upgrade, throttle stop removed, and the motor was just too flat and didnt rev high enough. In the steep stuff it couldn't pull 3rd and was tapped in 2nd but barely moving. Higher revs and more power would have helped it make the jump to 3rd. I was not impressed with the motor at all. Haven't run an FX but if it's anything like my 450XCF, I'd go that way 100 times over.

Or just spend 3 grand less and get a holdover yz. Ya we all want a fx but when it comes down to it it's the performance of the bike that is important. Not the light or the button.

We have a 16 WR450F and a 16 YZ450FX demo snowbikes they have the same rearward facing engines.... The WR is green sticker as they always have been but the programable ECU kit is $150 US dollars and includes the throttle stop and instructions.. You can change exhaust to whatever you want or just uncork it, the YZ exhaust is really loud! We may put a Q4 on it and the WR. The airbox on the WR is also corked but is an easy 5 minute fix. Both front ends need heavier fork springs to work correctly. After that the bikes work almost exactly the same. Same transmissions stators and stuff the lights are nice to have if you stay out late or you can put lights on the FX. Either bike is fun and works great!

So I'm thinking of replacing my KX and was considering the FX or getting another SX ,, tell me about the transmissions as I see you have an orange bike with you unless its an xcw,, and for me at my advanced age the button is now a necessity ?

Orange bike is an XCF all three bikes are using 2nd or 3rd most of the day, hard climbs are 2nd gear. The FX is an LT.. our snow is always heavy and wet mostly climb in second but ride and sidehill and jump in third.. WR450 is an ST works great pulls third most of the time. XCF is a 15 ST pulls third.. FX climbs better than the XCF most of the time. The Wr only has 2 rides on it so haven't compared climbing yet. The Yamahas cruise the roads way better than the Orange bike. May try to gear the timbersled down to use third more on the FX..but it works great!

Gr8skidoo, in what ways, and why, are the yamahas better on the roads. By "roads" I assume trails. Also, do the yamahas vibrate less? When you get more time on the wr would appreciate feedback on mods and power comparison to the fx. Thanks for the post.

good vibes

the FX has a different counter balancer ? Any one check that in parts, not sure of the exact purpose, a vague reference to it by a Yam rep that FX would have less vibration on sustained long throttle runs................any substance to that ?
