WR or YZ for snobike

wr vs yz

wr is nice bike for sure. The e start and electrical system are very nice. When it all boils down the wide ratio tranny is a deal breaker for utmost performance. wr is gonna give up 10% to the yz every time. I run a wr and most of the time I'm ok with it. It goes everywhere any other bikes go but I just feel the split between the gears is a drawback. You can gear your chaincase and or primary gears to get an optimal climbing gear however you will always be wishing you could shift while climbing more readily. WR works great as a snowbike, just like the ktm exc or xc-w but for the optimal best most potent bike the all out supercross race is going to perform the best. I think a guy can be happy with an enduro bike on snow u are just going to give up 10% or so. That's not a big sacrifice if it means u only need one bike for snow and summer, but if money is not the problem the all out race for winter and more of an enduro for summer will most likely yield the best performance. Turbo wr for snow will work good!

Just fyi. I bought a polisport universal led headlight and just wired it into the tuner port for power. It's super bright and only has a 3 watt draw. It doesn't solve your electric start problem but it fixes your headlight problem. I love my 12' yz.

Any concern riding a MX bike on trails and other places that legally requires a street legal bike?
Here in Sweden it's illegal to ride an uninsured bike with no numberplates, lights and indicators.
The only place we can ride a MX bike is at designated race tracks.
For me a street legal bike is the ony option such as the WR or a KTM EXC.
The YZ is not possible to register as a street legal bike.
Maybe there are other laws in US or Canada or you just don't care...?

Here in the US it is possible to make an mx bike street legal and get a license plate. I think some states won't let you but most will. Most states require an inspection of the vehicle once its brought up to street legal. I'm in Montana so all we have to do is fill out a form and check off each category and sign that the vehicle meets all street legal criteria and a plate can be obtained. For off road use a trail sticker is also required. The requirements are: horn, headlight, tail and breaklight, license plate light, mirror, dot approved for road use tires, and a couple of reflectors. Turn signals are nice but you can get by with hand signals if u want. The wr is easier to make street legal but it still is not even close from the factory. The fi yz's can run the headlight off the efi if u use a low draw led and the horn and other accessories can b run off an external battery u add and recharge before rides. Making a carbed yz street legal would b more of a pain, but is doable. I got the wr for the electrical but the wide ratio tranny is not my favorite for snow.

We buy street bikes to go on the street :D Around here the street bikes ride on the pavement and us off roaders ride in the ditch beside the pavement... just as good!
