Would I be safe studding this track?

I have a 2010 Switchback 600 dragon that I just installed a camoplast intense on. I have never ran studs before but I have had more than a few close calls on some icy corners.
I ride 50/50 on off trail in Michigan. I have heard great things about the track but I know the shortest stud I could put in there is 1.625" and I don't want to destroy any of my coolers. Local dealer told me not to even think about it but he also told me I would majorly regret putting any 1.5" lug track on.
I would only stud down the center with tunnel protectors installed. I just want them for traction on icy corners and some extra help stopping for that "oh crap" moment.

What do ya think...Stud it or leave it alone?

Nothing wrong with studs if the terrain calls for them, however, I'd stick with a 1.25" or the new Cobra track (1.352) at a max- keeps stud size minimized. First though, run down to your favorite Polaro dealer and get a Tunnel Protector Kit. This kit will keep your studs from ruining your tunnel, gas tank, etc. (The kit consists of hyfax installed on the heat exchangers, so tunnel clearance will be reduced.) Then go to your favorite stud brand's web site and study the myriad of stud patterns available and order accordingly. I studded an identical machine that you have for Iron Dog duties, though I used the standard 1.25" track.
