I was just reading about the avy in Pakistan that killed 130 soldiers! That has to rate right up there for the most fatalities in one incedent

I'm not sure what has been the most deadly avalanche ever, but I would think the 1962 Avalanche in Peru would be toward the top of the list.

The book Gary Krist wrote on that avalanche was astounding. Shows all the events leading up to the slide and its aftermath. It is very well written, and one of the better books I have read on the subject. It is called "The White Cascade". I highly recommend it.
