i was wondering if anyone had any information on jobs and work in Canada. Im a roughneck and have also been an underground miner. Ive heard a lot about the oil sands and was wondering if there are any jobs or if its slow there too. Any information on work, and what it would take for me to go to work as far as passport/work visa would be great.
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, and Albertans correct me if I'm wrong, but the Alberta oil fields are still very slow compared to what they were a year ago. I know a couple of guys whose jobs were pretty much shut right down overnight last year. There are so many repo auctions with heavy equipment and re-possessed trucks and toys from guys who just didn't manage the big cash very well. Some rumblings that things are beginning to pick up slowly but it's going to be a long time til it's back to where it was. Google Fort McMurray Alberta, or Alberta Oil Fields and you may find a bit more info. Good Luck :beer;

when i was goin up there working for weatherford, there was like a national law against goin to canada to work in the field if there was a canadian that could do it, i had a training visa and that was almost impossible to get, now if you move in and change citizenship your good to go

diamond drillers and helpers are coming from guatamela/cuba..heck from all over latin america to work for the mineral exploration companys in these parts

There was a group of Asians who could barely speak english with "Fake" journeyman papers that got busted at a major petroleum refinery in Ft. Mac last year.....so obviously they were hiring whoever was breathing and still warm. Pretty sure it's a different story now.

Yep rigs are slow if your into that work. But most others things are picking up and/or going crazy again. I'm sure the rigs ain't to far behind, but it will never get stupid like it did before.

Exactly how it is for us to go to the USA.LOL.Sounds like we could all be workin if our countries would let us.

the canadians comin down here takin my work all have told me they just got a visa, my visa i had ten years ago said i could only go up to canada for training only

Well if you are an employee of a company it is easier to get a work visa or if you have a degree in something can be anything even if its not related to your job.If you are a contractor im not sure how the heck you can get a work visa.Alot of canadians visa say they are training or they are going to go train someone else.Really its its stupid half the companies use contractors and employees and they operate in USA and Canada so what the difference and they are all working for an oil companies that are probably owned by Saudi's anyways.
