won't go at high rpm

02 700 was runnin great all year and a few weeks ago i was doin a long climb, made it and came down then tried it again and it wouldnt go above 7000 rpm. felt like i had an exhaust restriction but it was doin on the trail, on the left side and right side...so my heated grip was all twisted and broke. thought for sure that was the problem, unhooked it and that didnt work. checked the exhaust valves and one of the bellows was blown out, so i replaced those and the springs in both sides, and it still did not fix it:face-icon-small-fro if you some ideas i would appreciate them. im thinkin it electric i have had the carbs apart recently and cleaned them out good but i cant figure it out! thanx guys

It's going around alot on this site, change your Temp sensor, when it fails it retards timing and you won't pull over 7,000 RPM. Seriously like every other post these days!

hey boxster i read your other post for goat and seems to me that my temp sensor light would be comin on. im not over heating or nothin it just wont run like it should at full throttle!

I agree with Leardriver. It's painless to check... Good luck

Check your compression. Especially if the sled has 2,500 miles since the last top end.

145 psi is stock. Anything less than 125 or a 10 psi differential = rebuild time.

Well I'm pretty sure I said this in another post already if you read it, but when mine went out last month my light never came on, after rebuilding my clutches and checking everything else I changed the sensor and thats what fixed it. Should of been where I started but I wasted alot of time over a $25 sensor. I'm just trying to help you guys out to avoid what I went through. I still think its worth a shot. I don't know why I have to convice people to change it, I think I will just stop trying.

Checking your primary clutch spring will take you a max of 30 seconds if you do it in the dark without a flashlight. A broken spring will cause exactly the symptoms you described.

temp sensor did not fix it and primary spring is not broke as for as i can see i will take the clutchs off and check and replace as needed. what about a voltage regulator?:face-icon-small-dis

Well if you have already checked your exhaust valves, check your clutches for broken springs and bad bushings, it seems like if you pulled a hill once then right after it wouldn't pull RPM's, you would think it would be something simple like a broken spring or something electrical retarding the timming. Other things; check your carb vent lines to make sure they haven't come off. Voltage regulaor only controls the lighting coil side of the stator. the computer side does not have a regulator. If its elctrical, you can unhook the black wire on the cdi wiring harness (white round conector behind airbox) to see if anything is shorting out in handel bars, TPS sensor out of range , Bad CDI box. If you have a buddy with a 700 or 800 you could swap it out to test. Make sure pipe is sealed up really good. check compression (but this would not be a sudden loss of power). A bad stator can cause issues, can't really think of much else that would cause that condition. Start with the simple stuff first.
