Headed to Wolf Creek next week. Can someone recommend a snowmobile friendly hotel to stay in? Thanks

Depends which side you want to stay on really. BUt south fork doesnt have the nicest places but they are decent and not to expensive. Pagosa springs has a couple really nice ones plus the hot springs which is nice after a long day of riding. Where you gonna ride? tuker ponds? or up top if you ride the top sunday and are a good rider maybe me and some buddies could take you with us to some locals only spots

I went to south fork a couple weeks agoe and stayed at the Allington inn. Nice place. If you decide to go here, mention the"Best Kept Secret deal" and it will save you alot of money..

I would take you up on your offer but it will be Monday or Tuesday before we roll in. Thanks

Ute Bluff Lodge supports snowmobilers and is a nice place .. Allington Inn does not.

Your off your rocker, Th Allington is awesome to us. We stay there every time. We have stayed at the ute bluff place and it was fine but the rooms are so much nicer at the allington and they have an indoor hot tub and pool. Breakfast is also included in the price.

OK ... OK .. should have kept my mouth shut. I've also stayed at Allington a few years back and it was good. It's just that I asked a local before going down this year and the word he gave me is they don't 'support' snowmobiling. I won't name names, but he's very involved in snowmobiling in the area and CSA.

Are they a CSA business member?.. no. COHVCO?.. no. Blue Ribbon?.. no. Do they contribute to any local grooming or trailhead maintenance that they enjoy the benefits of additional business? .. I hear not. Sounds like they just want to take (our money) and not give anything back to our sport. I do give them credit for running a fine business with good customer service, thought I personally choose to spend my snowmobile money where it will also benefit our sport.

BTW .. did I ever say Allington was a bad place to stay? No, just that they don't support our sport.

BTW2 .. thanks for the 2 bad reps guys (and that is sarcasm).

Getting back in my rocker now for a quick nap, dreaming of the day when the San Juans are all wilderness and the Allington Inn is making a profit from cross-country skiers instead of us indifferent snowmobilers.... zzzzzzz

where do you fuel up your sleds? do they support a local club...blue ribbon...blah blah blah. Where do you buy your food while sledding......

not sure why a hotel should be held to a higher standard?

Yes I do whenever available ... bought gas at the Rainbow in South Fork a few weeks back, which is a CSA business member.

BTW, they carry non-ethanol 91 octane just for us :face-icon-small-hap

I'm done blah, blah, blahing... as I see this conversation is just setting myself up as a target.

Not sure how you are a target?

A negative comment was made about a business that is well run and snowmobiler friendly, so I felt a need to set the record straight. If the recent sale has gone thru (last month) then the owner/former manager has only been in place for weeks. Not sure what if any affiliations have been made yet? In these tough economic times every little ding positive or negative can have an effect.

Besides your reasons sound more like something an enviro-nazi would say which confuse's me...but no matter.

The Allington Inn is a great place to stay in South Fork. Very freindly owner/staff. Plenty of parking for even the biggest of trailers. As someone mentioned the "best kept secret" rate is a steal.

Have a great winter

my $.02

I am afraid :face-icon-small-dis to say anything, but I think what ItDOABLE is saying is: If HE is going to stay in South Fork and spend money HE tries to spend his money at a place that supports snowmobiling and it's community. I don't see anything wrong with that. I have a cabin in South Fork and can tell you both places are nice and have a great staff. Either place would be a nice to stay with. :face-icon-small-hap

I am always looking for people to ride with. I go down and stay for up to 4 days. I am from Coloradp Springs. I am looking for somw one to ride with the third weekend in March for 4ish days. No trail riding and must be a long track rider that does not drink and ride. :)

Thanks :cheers"

Joe

I get where he is coming from...well I don't get it but.....you know.

Could have easily posted that Ute is a good place to stay and a CSA supporter...without putting down another business.

don't ride there, no snow, no beer, no fun people:) J/K always had a blast except for in the lobby of one hotel...

We had reservations at the Allington Inn... upon attempting to check in, we were lectured by two ladies at the front desk about the all the rules and the consequences if they were broken. We canceled due to their Attitudes and walked on.

After staying at four other places over the last couple years (that were all pretty much awesome) Myself nor any of our group would ever recommend the Attitude-Inn. For the price I would recommend you go elsewhere, we have found at least three other sledder friendly locations to stay at that were nice and very happy to have our business. Hope this helps, sometimes getting the word out about an experience like this is just what people are logging on here to figure out.

I was along on this trip. We've pretty much stayed everywhere in SF and River Bend IMO is the place to stay. The owner plowed out parking right at our door step and is very resonable with prices. Allington didn't seem to care about our business when we walked out. We kinda got that corporate "Holiday Inn feel with them. Just my $.02.
